  1. Baffling on Taking Games Seriously · · Score: 3

This article is baffling, especially to those of us that have made a living taking gaming "seriously" for the last, oh, 10 years or so. This smacks of a savvy PR fim alerting a journalist of their hot new website. There's nothing at myvideogames.com that isn't served up at other gaming websites that cover the videgame industry. Surely Katz isn't ignorant of the thousands of websites covering the videogame industry; reading this article, it appears Katz is guilty of that which he rails against, assuming other sites are intellectually vacant. (Well, most are.) Sorry kids, myvideogames.com is hardly an important site; it's a late-arriver. It offers nothing that isn't offered elsewhere (wow, news, reviews, profiles and essays!).

  2. Re:gold is good on Terminus Has Gone Gold · · Score: 3

Well, Terminus is not in any way, shape or form like Homeworld, so a comparison wouldn't really be relevant. It's a space combat game where you fly around in a space ship trading and blowing stuff up a la Elite or Privateer. Homeworld is a strategy game where you control a bunch of ships, collect resources, etc. It has more in common with Command & Conquer-style games... (though the difference is obvious, with the setting and 3D-ness). Anyone interested in a game like Homeworld might want to check out ORB from Strategy First. I did a preview of that game here . (I apologize in advance for our site's layout. It's someone's idea of a cruel joke... not really, but if you do check it out... 'nuff said).

Grossman recounts this story (let's not forget he was a main witness and advisor for the case against the media) a lot, but what he fails to bring up is that the kid was obviously temporarily insane.

At that moment, he probably had so much clarity that the gun would not move when he aimed it.

Compare that to the cops, that were in fear of their lives (whether justified or not).

  4. Actually... on Two By Katz · · Score: 1

Danny Boyle's first major movie since Trainspotting was actually "A Life Less Ordinary," with Ewan McGregor and Cameron Diaz.

It was both lifeless and ordinary.

  5. End of Wild Wild West on The Internet-Have We Reached A Turning Point? · · Score: 1

I'm not sure who the collective "we" is, but sure, most of these laws will end the 'net's reign as a sort of lawless, or maybe more accurately self-policed, wild-wild west. But anyone who didn't think this would happen was being naive. There's too much money involved. And to those people that think these are issues that only affect the USA, you're being naive as well. With the global economy becoming more and more important, the US has enough power to force nearly every country that wants to do business with us to respect certain laws of ours. We're the schoolyard bullies, and if you don't follow our rules, we'll kick you out of the sandbox. Ultimately, no amount of legislation can impede individual thoughts; however, it can affect how you share or present them. It's effectively forced every Internet page to follow the rules of journalism and think about issues of libel and being held accountable for your own actions. I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing. Freedom of speech has never meant a freedom to say whatever you want; there have always been limitations. As for some of the issues, I'm not entirely up to speed on all of them, but as someone that creates intellectual property, I have a somewhat difficult time with programs like Napster. If I create something that I feel people might want to purchase, I'd hate to think anyone can just pass it around. As an example, if you own a website that depends on ad revenue for income, would you be happy with a software program that allowed people to share their favorite website pages with people, depriving you of the ad views?
