Not just customers, but clients. SOCAN is rubbish. I used to be a recording and performing musician, and SOCAN was nothing but a hassle, and certainly hasn't represented me, my views on music distro, or assisted in making a single cent off my music.
The whole system is corrupt and consists of liars and cheats ripping off musicians and music lovers.
I didn't... It got me to paste a URL into my browser (which of course i was suspect of, but d'uh..but it was rather sneaky about it, and i was tired at the time), and then it did its thing.
I didn't actually ever click 'like', which is part of the problem...and that this is only getting attention now.
I got hit by this a few weeks ago, there was a similar 'Bet You Don't See...' item to Like. I had the impression it was going to be like the basketball/gorilla video, but it automatically invited all my friends, etc..there was no way (i could see) to not do it once you were sucked in.
I 'reported' it (although the Facebook 'report' button is entirely inadequate for this), and encouraged the friend i got this from to as well..
Why is this only coming up now? When i hit that page, it had already sucked in nearly 200,000 people. (ie, the number of 'Fans'.)
I'm hopeful it'll have a very long lifespan, but you bring up a good point about the consumption in producing this product. Much of it is recyclable (at least in facilities where i live), and the small amount of energy used can be environmentally friendly (ie, solar.)
Will the device outweigh all the paper i would print, and the thousands of books i'd buy? I hope so.. It's also a matter of convenience, that i don't want shelves of books.;)
One of the reasons i recently picked up an e-reader was to avoid collecting more books, and even printing up longer online articles (can easily copy to e-reader, and read at my leisure.)
Quite happy with it so far.
Rogers is pathetic for cell service and what they've done to cripple cell phones.
Anyone on Rogers ever try to use Twitpic? The idiots have devised a system where texting a photo involves Rogers uploading it to their server, and sending out an email with a link to the page it's on...then if you want to download the image, it's several clicks, and then you download a freaking ZIP file if memory serves..... I was actually chatting with someone at Twitpic to try and make it work with Rogers (they *do* display a shrunk version of the pic that can be extracted with some selective code), and i believe he gave up it was so ill conceived.
If you call Rogers to complain, they just go 'huh?' As though Twitter and Twitpic are some obscure, little-used web fad....
I'm a bike racer, training 4-5 days per week, and use a PowerTap, which measures wattage on the bike (it's built into the rear hub of my bike.)
500w is very difficult to maintain, and impossible for the 'average' person...i think 30 seconds is pushing it, i'm a fairly strong rider over shorter distances, and i can hold it for perhaps 1.5mins, if i'm having a spectacular day! I am doubtful a hockey player can sustain that for 3mins unless they've trained extensively on the bike as well...
Over an hour, my FTP (functional threshold power) is in the 265w range...so all things being equal, i'd be able to edge out one of these bikes over the distance. The FTP of Lance is probably in the 420-450w range, and an average person ought to be able to hold 90-140w over an hour.
250w gets you up over 30kph on flat terrain, so you're moving at a pretty good speed, and that's the speed where the limiter usually kicks in as well.
I'm surprised cycling hasn't been mentioned.
Similar to rowing, we've enjoyed using power measurement tools for years. Special cranks or hubs, for example, measure the force applied in the pedal stroke, and provide us with instant feedback, measured in watts, so we have quantified feedback on our efforts.
These devices store the data, which of course we interpret on our computers. It's excellent feedback, and really enables riders to fine-tune their training, revealing weaknesses and strengths. Data peaks are usually stored for time intervals, so peak wattage over 5 seconds, 30 seconds, 5mins, 20mins, etc.. Looking at any rider's output over these areas shows if they're more of a sprinter or endurance rider, etc.. Once you have their weight, you can compare riders in watts per kilogram, which is helpful for determining how well a rider will be able to climb. (ie, a heavier rider will likely be able to pump out more watts, but due to the extra resistance going uphill, a lighter rider could very well have a more favorable w/kg profile.)
These of course also tie into some of the mentioned devices, such as the Garmin 705, which can pick up the wireless signals from power-measurement devices, and you can track elevation, GPS, heart rate and much more as well. It makes for some interesting feedback post-ride. I've been training and racing with power for nearly three years, it's pretty amazing.
Check out devices from PowerTap or SRM, good software is from Trainingpeaks called WKO+, and if you really want to get into the subject, check out the Wattage Googlegroup.
Good post.
haha - i got modded down!! I hardly ever post here (obviously) but i thought this would be funny at least. =P
First vegan to post!

Err...doesn't this also help people who want to go and hunt and kill jaguars..?
I think it might have been wiser to keep this quiet to protect them. =(
