  1. What happened to capitolism? on Free Wi-fi Prompts BellSouth to Withdraw Donation · · Score: 0

I don't understand why everyone is for government getting into the telecommunications business. By doing this drives taxes up, causes bigger government and makes new orleans even more of a welfare state to support their network. The last thing this city needs is more government programs, especially if they already have a corporation that is capable of handling the project. This is a good time for the small independent firms to also get in on this action because nothing is established and the playing field is open.

I personally applaud bell south for what they have done. If you look at England as a model of the way this is heading, they used to own a ton of companies in the 70s and 80s and was more of a socialist environment. What happened? Rampant waste, deadlines missed, sky high taxes and an overall stagnate economy. In the 90's they began privatizing these corporations and they became profitable and well run. No more taxes being dumped into these wasteful programs.

Overall, New Orleans needs to get out and help themselves to rebuild, not just accept welfare from everyone. It is how the economy works. For every dollar they borrow to rebuild, their economy grows, money circulates, goods are bought and employement is realized. Maybe one day it will not be one of the poorest cities in the nation. The hurricane could actually be the force that drives it to become financially independent, but not with wasteful government overhead.

  2. 3-4 minutes of entertainment vs. 2 hrs? on 2003 CD Sales Officially Down 7.6 Percent · · Score: 1, Insightful

I simply won't buy a cd because everytime i've bought one in the past five years there has been one song i like on it. So that equates to $15 for 3-4 minutes of entertainment. With a dvd, for $15, i get 2 hrs. of entertainment. Why would i bother with CDs?

  3. The internet on Tech Support - To Phone or Not To Phone? · · Score: 1, Insightful

Here's the thing: unless you are doing something such as groundbreaking research, almost every problem or incident has happened before and has been logged somewhere on the internet. It's actually hard for some people to accept that they are just a drone in society, doing the same thing over and over and think they have unique problems.

I personally always search google, and then go to google groups for more obscure dilemmas. Tech support has always been a last option to me and i've really only used it a few times in my life, although I use google almost daily to deduce my problems.

  4. Super Ketchup Package on Ideas Unlimited: 11 Suggestions for New Inventions · · Score: -1

Why hasn't anyone created the super-ketchup package? How many times have you wanted ketchup on your fries and you have to open 5 packets of ketchup to get a decent amount that would actually change the taste of the fry from salt to a salty tomato. The technology is there - look at the salad dressing container they give you.

The super ketchup packet will not only be more environment friendly, but it will be more user friendly and cost effective as well by these 3 things:

    a) I open up at least five packages every time. This is a lot of waste compared to just one big container that would have the appropriate amount of ketchup. You would be able to get only one at your drive through rather than the arsenal of packets you currently receive.

    b) If your hands are greasy in any way- it become a battle against futility as you crinkle that container in every way trying to wean one side from another and expose the contents of container. With the super packet, this battle would only take place one, instead of five.

    c) I have not seen the accounting figures for ketchup, but my guess is that the packet costs the most of the whole apparatus. By incorporating the super packet, this will cut-down cost substantially, as long as overhead from customers asking for more ketchup and having to grasp numerous packets to fling into your bag of conglomerate unhealthiness.

One milestone the ketchup producing empires have finally figured out is ketchup in a plastic housing may be better than a glass one. I have been lobbying them since 1989 about this one. Who knows, this may already be in development in one of the ketchup companies top-secret tomato laboratories and just waiting for the current supply of packets that are still being used up since the first production of packets from 1983 to run out.

  5. Has the RIAA even considered it has new competiton on RIAA Settles With 12-Year-Old Downloader · · Score: -1

I used to buy CDS because they were a cheap form of entertainment for an hour for a $12 fee. Now when i go to the store, the CDs are almost $20 which is the same price as a DVD. Lately a lot of DVDs are coming out even cheaper at a $15 price point. A DVD provides so much more entertainment value with at least two hours viewing enjoyment plus bonus features and sometimes computer features.

Sure, music sales are down quite a bit, but not just because of downloads. When you're charging the same price as a movie as an audio cd, its enevitable your sales will lag just due to new competition that has become widespread that wasnt there just three years ago.

  7. I want the serial terminal program for it. on Agenda's Linux Based Handheld · · Score: 1

The specs say it can interface with a direct serial connection. If you look at the screen it shows a terminal program. This would be a very useful tool for network administrators that have to always log in to a machine via serial to configure it. Right now i carry my laptop around and it is very large and clunky and i'd love to buy one of these to connect to routers or switches.
