Now that the 2.6 Kernel is out, I imagine all the major distributions will have updates relatively soon...
... which will sit on the shelves if anyone is smart. Linus himself has said he'd wait until an update. No point in rushing. The kernel isn't going anywhere.
Even if you did mean we only telnet inside a corporate network these days, you'd be wrong if you were in my corporate network. There's no reason, and I won't allow it. I suspect I'm not alone.
It's nice to know you can do this, and I've used the modules referenced for custom fixes. But don't reinvent the wheel if you don't have to: EasyTag probably does 90% of what you would write something custom for.
Since when did I say it was indicative of anything? The post I replied to discounted it immediately because of the size, and I was refuting that. It might be better, it might not, but not considering it because of the size is retarded.
And attitude like that is precisely what will keep Linux from the desktop. Some people want it to be easy, people like you will slam something like Lindows that makes it easy.
Even though you're slamming me, it's still funny! I didn't intend to come off like that, but I guess I did anyway. I have become what I once hated. Time for another posting hiatus...
A place like Best Buy might meet your definition of a "store", but not mine. The computer retailers I shop at have no inventory on the floor. Only a couple glass cases with motherboards and CPUs, and a couple terminals to search their stock.
Looks very cool, but I don't understand the need for CF card for booting. I can understand if you used a read-only medium to boot from, but this has a hard disk. Is there something in the architecture that creates this need?
That was really long and drawn out, and you might have made a point, but it's irrelevant. The OP asked if the Linux FAT driver violates the patent. Did you look at the patent? I did. And it is not in violation. The patent deals with hardware that utilizes the filesystem. So fuck off.
Fair enough. I honestly wasn't criticizing the information, I really was curious if there was something I was missing. I'm probably below the mean slashdotter as far as technical knowledge, so I guess given that it's targeted at a newbie, I guess I was more questioning you mentioning it here than the information itself.
I know the functionality is lesser, and there's no digital out (we ARE talking about mp3 here), but I'll stick with my TiVo with Home Media Option. One device, consistent interface, public server API, and more importantly, ONE box in my cabinet... can't beat it.
What exactly is revolutionary about the information posted there? I didn't find anything that isn't pretty obvious. Plus, while CDEx is a great program, and I do have both Windows and Linux systems, I've found it much easier to use grip. I leave it running all the time, hidden. Put CD in, it does its thing, CD comes out. Doesn't get easier than that.
You're not paying attention. It's the manufacturer of the product that would have to pay the royalty. The device could be running Linux, Windows Mobile, or VMS Mobile, and it wouldn't matter.
Local police are doing little to stop it? Hmm. I'm not very well versed in Malaysian crime rates, but I would guess that the police have slightly more pressing issues to be concerned with.
Nah, more like "s1b".
This is the biggest computer-related time event since Y2K, which begun on January 1, 19100!
I didn't see the answer to the question everyone is asking: can you pan far enough to see the girl in the bikini by the pool?

Yeah, 4MB? Count me out. I mean, RAM and hard drives cost a small fortune these days. As does bandwidth.
Does that mean we'll have to pay $129 every year for an "upgrade"?

*boots up linux distro of choice*
Right. Clearly not *brings laptop out of hibernation* with Linux, that's for sure.

Suppose you go into a store, and ask for a mouse. The guy behind the counter says "USB?", and that's not what you want. What is your response?
Please tell me you don't say "Pee ess slash two"...

Get 'em hooked, then they'll have to keep joining, once they see that the banners have once again quadrupled in size!
Glad at least someone caught it. :-)

Maybe he was using "Lame" as a noun, rather than an adjective. You know, the encoder. I know it doesn't make sense, but coming from him it might, no?
And, while I'm rambling, what about the FAT driver in the Linux kernel? Is it in violation of the patent?
No, the patent only has to so with hardware.
I know you're lazy, but seriously, clicking the link and finding that out would have taken less time than typing that you are lazy. Try it sometime.
