Not to be picky or anything but in order for me to consider it a proper robot, it's computing power must be onboard. Remote control devices are a bit short of the concept of being robots..
I think that a world that allows total collection of data by everyone, everywhere might be just fine. I'm sure I've had my bad moments in life but so has everyone else. If you put every ounce of info about me on TV I don't think the world would give a hoot. So for my two cents I think hidden tape recorders, camaras and phone line taps are fine and dandy. The idea is that if you sat one world to another person that maakes it public property.
I have read that it is vital that absolutely no censorship is ever attempted as one instance of cencorship make you responsibile for all content forever. I think there may be quite a bit of protection if the site never accepts money from any source at all. Sharing is usually legal if it is not for profit. This gets twisted if the advertisers pay you because you then have a financial motive to increase circulation. But as far as I know you could distribute books or music without any liability if there is no money involved. Remember also that a person or company usually must prove loss in order to sue. Proof of loss even when it is real is not so easy. If you form a corporation with no assets then who cares if the corporation gets sued. Simply form another if need be. The defunct firm "Technovate" of Pompano Florida built sophisticated robots as early as 1985 that assembled baby model robots. They also buily large robotic systems that machined and assembled complex machines. There were numerous public demonstrations. I saw the ABC News reprt on this latest stuff and what actaully was new and important was that they were using Evolving programs to do the design work. For those that like to be shocked I want to see a robot that has the status of a corporation who's function is to invest, make money, and then use that money to replicate its own evolving species.
It is normal and wholesome to respect the law and authority in general. Balanced against that statement is the nasty little fact that tyranny makes use of working within the system to insure that nothing ever changes. Responsability can be used as a weapon against fairness. Often the real progress in the world is made by those who buck the system. The very folks who developed the computer industry were counter culture nerds and geeks who denied the more common values and goals of life.
If you think about it a bit, freedom of speech is totally lost at the point that it is decided that a court may hold a hearing to determine if that speech is permitted. Free speech is not subject to potential restraint or threat of punishment. Free speech in America is a dead issue.
People always miss the point completely. Freedom of speech can only exist when the government lacks the capacity to judge. Once government gets a toe through the doorway it is all over. Usually the old saw about screaming fire in a crowded theatre is mentioned. The real answer is that unless a man can scream fire in a crowded theatre without fear of criminal or civil consequences, all freedom is shot forever. It's all or nothing. A girl can't be a little bit pregnant. Freedom is pure.
First consider that the rights in question are duties of the Federal government and are quite different for a local school system. Local governments are restrained by the state constitution and those restraints may be quite different than the Bill of Rights. Secondly, a private firm may do all kinds of things that the state or federal government can't. So it may all be legal. These issues have a history in the Americans With Disabilities Act. Disturbed people do have liberties but those around them also have the right to function without fear of violence. There is a legal compulsion for all people to be somewhat civil and coherent as not being in that state of mind is an implied threat to all.
