Unfortunately there are many among us fiercely addicted to ethics issues. Where no normal man has gone before these types can dredge up some strange ethical or moral issue at the drop of a hat. From my view we ought to be crossing gorillas with einsteins as we can create some great ball players who can also pass their exams. Besides it seems like our president was crossed with a jerk and a half already.
Censorship extends well beyond the written word in many private colleges. In some one is expected to somehow radiate and reflect certain belief systems or else.
There is a built in conflicvt between the notion of college and censorship that is not in any way moderated by whether a school is public or private. A boiling debate with advocates from every point of view enables each person to find their own beliefs rather than having beliefs of the college or anyone else implanted in the student. A population with a diversity of beliefs enables freedom to persist. One need only look back to the WWII era or at modern Iraq to find out what can happen when a limited number of beliefs are allowed to exist.
I have decent cable service through Adelphia which is now owned by Comcast. However I am in a small town and when service fails it is often for a full day or even more. To run even a small business such as buying and selling on Ebay one would need a cable connection and also a dial up as a back up at a bare minimum of being in business. To put all ones eggs in a cable connection would be a loosing idea around here.
Some patterns are pretty easy to spot. They may not last forever but in the mean time a profit can be made. The simple type of example is a stock that tends to go up a quarter or so right after lunch and drops back to its norm before closing. People have made a lot of money picking oddball stocks such as that. I've also seen one or two who lost big money as they get too greedy and try to see trends that really aren't there. Using leverage can be the path to really taking a serious beating. Keep it simple and have a narrow focus and you'll probably do well.
I wouldn't mind fermenting my ex-wife to make fuel at all. We could call it the Justice Bio Fuel Company!
But on a more serious note the loss of farmland, the creation of agriculture run off, and the inevitable raising of the cost of food all negate any current efforts to grow fuel crops. When we get the technology to raise enough algae to create fuel that might not be a concern. As always the real solution goes back to reduction of the size of population to get the best results.
In my town all is fair game from 7 am until 9 pm. Therefore any neighbor who causes me grief can be subjected to my learning a new musical instrument. The trombone, the euphonium and the trumpet all have their glories when it comes to sounds that carry well. The tuba also works rather well. So buy a condo and the first time someone really irritates you simply start learning a new instrument. As long as you stay within the legal hours for making noise they have no choice but to grin and try to bear it. And keep in mind that there are lots and lots of unusual musical scales that don't occur in common music. A five tone scale can really educate your neighbors after you get it right by playing it a couple of hours a day for a month or so.
Divers floating about either dead or alive are an anathema to boat propellers. You can mess up a really great prop on a diver. Investing in stainless props does help ease the repair frequency.
I wonder how many cops are fired after threatening people who simply take photos or document an incident. If civil liberties are being protected I would think that interfering with a photographer would be just cause for terminating any cop who pulls such a stunt.
I've dealt with Iron Curtain scholars in the past and found that many were of the very highest ability. Even under the absurd communist regime in Romania many engineers of the first order were created. As an American I found that sort of a shock at first. It surprises me how ethnocentric I can be as I was even taken back by the ability of Canadian scholars. It seems that we are sort of brain washed to believe that we are somehow out front of the pack in all circumstances. We are not.
Sadly school boards in the larger districts often approach stark raving insanity as their normal mode of operation. The motives of individual board members can vary from being totally political to hard core financial corruption. Take a look at the compensation one gets for being on a board and you will quickly know just why the scum of the earth are in these positions.
There is no known method of rehabilitation that can demonstrate any viability at all. That is even true when unlimited sums are available to treat an individual. It is one thousand times more true when budgets are involved. Worse yet the notion of punishment is 180 degrees out of sinc with any type of rehab. The first thing that most people need is joy. People experiencing joy rarely commit crimes. They also do not store anger and rage. So if you make prison a really wonderful place to be the convicts will become much more enlightened but then again lines will form for all of the general public who would also like to live nicely. In other words if you must go to jail try not to be late for lunch!
You have fallen into a common flaw. The convict in no way owns his sentence. The purpose of the sentence lets his family and friends and all that know him that commiting a similar crime will ruin their lives. His ruined life is nothing more than a demo.
Although more crime of this nature goes on off of the net than on it I think it is time we took fraud more seriously. Many so called legitimate companies commit fraud deliberately and on an ongoing basis. Perhaps its time to flush them down the hole. For example we see fraudulent weight loss products advertised on our TVs every night. They are designed to prey upon the ignorant, weak minded or desperate among us. It's time to punish these preditors.
There is more than just spam at play. The product was a fraud. A nine year sentence for selling a fraudulent product is not unusual. Nine years is actually quite lenient. In my state people who commit financial frauds are often sentenced to really long terms -150 years etc..
In some cases society has the absolute right to insist that a patient takes medications even if it is painful to the patient. We have a mentally ill family member who hates his meds. You would be astounded at the expenses he generates at tax payers expense when he is off his meds. It is all too easy for a person suffering from mental illness to cost the public millions of dollars. Worse yet real therapy is almost historic at this point in time. Psychiatrists now see patients for 15 minutes every few months at $300 a click.
Wear and tare on an engine means a lot more than wear and tare on brake parts. The reason that older drivers don't worry about things like engine breaking is that they learn through the years. These days about the only good reason for manual trannies is towing heavy trailers. Automatics rock. And if you ever get your hands on an infinite gear transmission you will never want anything else.
I owned six new VWs from 1988 through 2000. One of them had a bar graph that displayed current gas use. But the darned thing was mounted down in the center console next to the base of the shift lever. Looking at it meant taking one's eyes off of the road.
Hybrid cars are great for society and lousy for the buyers. They carry far more parts than conventional cars and those parts are expensive to maintain. Volkswagon has a diesel that al;ready gets better mileage than any hybrid sold and it is nicer to drive and costs far less to maintain.
The one legitimate use for hybrid cars is in cool climates where long traffic jambs are a daily experience. If you don't need AC on then standing in traffic without an engine running is fine. But for almost all users hybrids are a very bad idea. A $3000. battery pack more than ruins any fuel savings. Pure electric cars have also failed to work out well. At this time diesel is the best way to go. Fuel cells will be on the market soon enough and they should kick butt on all other systems.
Lurking in our nations colleges in the mid 1960's, I was a radical. We were struggling for the heart and soul of a nation against dark and sinister forces. When Dwight Eisenhower left office he warned of the great danger that our own arms manufacurers posed to America.
Currently, the new administration has crashed tech stocks by verbalizing a desire to refund the classic defense industry. This is the very same dangerous element that Eisenhower warned us about. It is all about your loss of freedom. It is real and it has set its fangs upon you now. Good luck to all - Pray for Peace

Why should anybody be forced to carry anything. It is surely factual that the net will increase the distance between factions but so what? If America is a boiling pot what is wrong with turning up the flame for a more vigorous boil? Free speech should produce a vigorous and almost violent state of perpetual conflict. That is what it is supposed to do. In a war of speech Darwin stands in the sidelines. The most fit speech will win the day.
Kids taunt and tease for several reasons. One is to pull others towards the center of the groups behavior. A bit of this toughens up kids and prepares them for life. What is a mystery is when we have a kid who is being taunted because of unusual behavior and the kid does not moderate the behavior but persists in the posture that is drawing the negative attention. If being "Goth" is unpopular at a school and one wants to be popular so badly that suicide is a consideration, I would assume that the logic would be not to be "Goth". Maybe some of these kids are just so fragile that no environment will work well for them.
Some states are even more occult. Florida frequently dishes out long, long jail sentences. Later, when the news media has been fed the defense lawyer threatens an appeal and a new sentence is negotiated in order to quash an expensive appeals process. It is a treacherous system as no defendant really ever knows quite what his fate might be. It is sort of a form of coercion designed to make people submit without trial.
First, there is some law out there that states that one becomes liable for everything on a server the first minute that any little act of censorship occurs. If they have a policy of never censoring anything they must be immune. People who operate bulletin boards or servers are frequently unable to know about material that goes through their systems and the moment they take that step and censor one little thing they had better review every little thing that passes through the system. So the law is a mess in this regard.
Second, N.Y.C. censoring something implies that every little hick town everywhere in the world can apply their laws. With free speech it is an all or nothing sort of thing. France recently managed to control the content of Yahoo. So now I am censired by France even though I live in America. This is not right.

I'll take mine as a portable chess machine.

So now we can run win98 as a folder on Linux and then we can run Linux from within that Win98 folder. I'm drunk with confusion.
