It worked with East Germany. In the 80s, Franz Josef Strauss (a conservative Bavarian politician that makes the average Republican look like a Pinko Commie) negotiated a billion Marks loan to the communist GDR with the (eventually revealed to be correct) expectation that this would make the GDR fully dependent on western money "like an addict to heroin", in his words.
Then all that had to be done is say "nope" when they needed more.
This is grounds to quit on the spot if you're the CISO.
Security is as good as the weakest link. Usually that weakest link is found in the C-Level and their secretaries. These people know ZERO about IT security but demand full privileges over their systems.
The only reason you don't get to hear about it too often is that they are also the people who would fire people for being incompetent fools who jeopardize security...
Not to mention that median income says exactly zilch. If you have one leg in the oven and the other in the freezer, your median temperature is cozy. What you would at least have to add is the actual distribution.
Let's be honest here. Nobody needs the F35 as a military plane. The F35 is a pork barrel project. We could just have pumped the relevant tax moneys into the states involved without anything in return and it would be just as fine. But harder to justify.
Look at the F35. Then look at the current military requirements, the theaters the US military is fighting in, the enemies it is fighting, the equipment of the US troops and that of their enemies, the theaters of war they're deployed to and the (stated and real) military goals they pursue. Then tell me with a straight face that this plane makes in ANY way sense.
I somehow expect that for some reasons, most likely copyright or some similar bullshit, Windows will curiously stop working soon if that spying engine is not running.
A smoke bomb and flash powder explosion is useful. Because you are supposed to look somewhere else while the magic is being worked. Have you never been to Vegas?
Great dream of a united Europe? Please. Germany wanted Greece to be able to pay for the submarines they bought from them. Why do you think the whole "austerity" package cut payments for everything from domestic development to retirement money, but oddly expenses for unnecessary war material (seriously, who needs submarines when they are effin' broke?) had to be served?
It needn't even be bigger. If someone who now has a million viewers that pay him nothing because he's demonetized and could have 10k elsewhere where he actually gets paid for it, he's gone. Because 10k times x (with x > 0) is more than a million times zero.
And you need a STOVL jet for what exactly?
May I remind you what the US is fighting right now?

I do. It's my job.
Then again, I plug it into systems that exist for that sole reason...
My money is on the idiot who lost it didn't even know that such encrypted USB keys exist.
What you're most likely dealing with here is some idiot C-level who will not even get fired for that blunder.
So I get it you have to use it a lot, too? Our self-help group meets every Wednesday.
Don't worry. Your luggage will be found. I'm absolutely confident. You just must not lose hope.

We're talking about MS, after all, and you say this like it would be a bad thing.
You had to go back to 2001 to make it true?
Hey, guess what: You really did.
And we're not even adjusting for inflation yet.

For that money it should be trivial to buy the enemy away.
Now how does this employ people in the US and enable certain governors to get reelected for "attracting jobs"?

Just imagine how many problems we could solve by breaking him up.
Some of that money goes towards remaining unnamed.
At some point in wealth, not being known becomes an asset...
Yes, and if you demonetize those videos, people will stop making them.
Sorry. Here is the "a fat woman came into the store" collection.
Pffft. Harmless.
Married with children.
That show wouldn't make it to the end of the pilot. It would get canceled at the first "A fat woman came into the store".
I guess spending anything up to, say, 130 Millions for security is well spent money, don't you agree?
I know my CTO. Trust me, I can toss that wet noodle.
Catalonia is only "more broke" because S&P doesn't expect the EU to pick up their tab.
As a EU member, I wonder if it's possible to kick someone out of the club...
Could we trade them?

If your business model is "You make the content, we make the profit", you have to give people a reason to make content for you.
