Cane toads are native to America. There are a bajillion of them in Australia. Would you please come and collect them, we don't want them and it apparently upsets you that animals have been moved to new locations.
As for the birds, what about the ones that were born and raised in captivity. What should we do with those? Euthanise or let out into the wild to starve?
I own a Nexus 9 and I think it is a good solid tablet. But mine looks raggedy as hell because the matt finish on the back is only a thin film overlay that has worn off all over the place and in others is lifting like old dead skin. So face up it looks good, face down it looks like a 20 year old tablet that has had a hard life.
The other comment someone else made is around the microSD slot. Particularly for a tablet, which is a pure media consumption device, it should have an SD slot.
It is because creating a hard vacuum is basically impossible. In a best case scenario they are looking 140pa but realistically it will be more than that. Still significantly lower than sea level pressures but definitely not a hard vacuum. Given that, drag will be a major factor and hence why it is such a focus of the design.
As for the compressors, who knows. The level of detail on the article is close to zero but there are a lot of boxes that do something in their design.
The MIT team's winning design details a 250 kg (551 lb) passenger pod with an exterior crafted from carbon fiber and polycarbonate sheets. With a passive magnetic levitation system comprising 20 neodymium magnets, the pod is designed to maintain a 15 mm (0.6 in) levitation gap above the track.
The team says with the lowest available tube pressure available of 140 Pa, the pod should be accelerated at 2.4 G and have 2 N aerodynamic drag when traveling at 110 m/s. The design also features a fail-safe braking system that automatically brings the pod to a halt should the actuators or computers fail, and low speed drive wheels that can move the pod forwards or backwards at 1 m/s in an emergency situation.
I think you would find the structural costs of roofing the highway prohibitive. The structure would have to be relatively high, so as to not impact large vehicles and it would act as a massive lifting surface. Weather events which may drop the electrical production of a ground mounted system have the potential to destroy a raised system.
Looks like you stopped being active here back in 2008ish. Can you remember the reason why you stopped? Or did you just go lurker?
Honestly I have looked for slashdot alternatives many many times over the last 5+ years but never ended up finding anything that gave me what I wanted. If you can bring slashdot back to the late 2000s I will be over joyed.
I would absolutely second the bringing back of sections to Slashdot.
Other suggestions I would add are:
* Don't try to make slashdot pretty. Make it information dense. Especially keep in mind that most of us use large desktop monitors with lots and lots of realestate to play with.
* Push to topics away from the mainstream. All of us can use google news. For me slashdot was the place I could come to, to read about things that never made it into main stream media. Don't be afraid to go really esoteric as even if I was completely unable to comment I always found it fascinating.
* Finally I would suggest finding a way to include the community in maintaining sections of the site. If you do bring back sections then I am absolutely sure there are people who would be willing to edit and maintain those sections. This site is about the community, let the community help.
Oh and a real finally. Take the mobile site out the back and put a bullet in it. Seriously.
Good luck Logan & BIZX. I have felt for a long time that slashdot was a truly wasted opportunity.
I'm not sure if you have been around the site for long yourself or not. But historically this site attracted people who actually knew about a topic and cared enough about it to explain it to us semi-literate unwashed geeks. If there was some way to attract those sort of people back to slashdot you will have a winner on your hands.
That is a problem with the laws though, not the concept of fines itself.
And I agree that $200 for 5 over is ridiculous. That said where I live if you are caught using your phone while driving it's a $1000 fine. If you do it twice in a 3 years period you will lose your license. 5 over would be a $70 fine in comparison.
What incentivisation method would you prefer for small scale issues? The Government, which was elected by the people, doesn't want you to exceed 55mph on this road. If it isn't a fine what method would you use?
I think it is because all the best story writers are writing cartoons or games. Seriously look at the story in the original 1999 PC Alien vs Predator game if they had made that the basis of the movie it would have been amazing.
I didn't really like the most recent film. I came away from it thinking it was ok but that was it, certainly not something that deserved rave reviews. I thought the acting was generally terrible, the plot was surprisingly weak and poorly paced and several of the characters annoyed me from the second they came on the screen.
But I have also come to the conclusion that my tastes must completely differ from the rest of the world. I didn't like the Kylo Ren character and in particular his lame wisecracks, as I found nothing about him to be dark or intimidating. Yet the reviews I read praised his casting, the writing and his modern day wise cracking nature. And I'm not even going to comment on Poe or Finn, except to say I wanted them to both die really really really early on.
That said I didn't like Fury Road either.
So my ticket price has contributed to the box office returns. But I wouldn't be lining up to see it again or buying it on disk later.
I agree with things like socket sets and spanners. You can genuinely see a big difference in quality between some of the brands. And if you round off a bolt you will be cursing yourself.
It's more the power tools, in particular the slightly odder ones. For example detail sanders. I have bought expensive ones and cheap ones, but they all fail the same way, the little head gets hot and no longer holds onto the pads after a while. But a ryobi replacement head is more than the price of a cheap sander.
Fair enough. My machine happily plays fallout 4 or anything else I have thrown at it so I'm not getting a bottle neck as far as I can tell. No question the intel chips are higher performance I just am not seeing a difference on a day to day basis.
That said, for a long time now I've found little need to upgrade regularly as nothing seems to strain even semi modern pcs.
But would you get something better? And would it make sense to? Was the final job somehow inferior as a result of using the cheap tool? If not then there will be a price to failure point where buying another $10 belt sander is still better than buying the expensive one.
For example at my local hardware superstore a 130W dremel 30 peice kit is $129 and the Ozito 170w 42 piece kit is $49. So am I going to see a failure rate 2.5x higher on the Ozito to make the dremel the better option, or is there something about the dremel that makes it 2.5 times better?
Not even the first American flower as Don Pettit grew sunflowers, zucchini and broccoli. You can see photos of them here - http://www.pri.org/stories/201...
Way way way way less convenient then a hand full of microSD cards. Especially if you want to have the device resting on something in portrait mode.
That's fine. If I am near a network.....
And for travel 5 microsd cards are way less hassle than an OTG cable hanging out of the bottom of my tablet.

One thing to point out is the 0.02 PSI is the minimum air pressure. Designs had to be done taking into account a higher air pressure.

Not to mention he isn't single and there is nothing that will cause issues in your relationship than naked photos of other women on your phone.
Out of interest can you point to any in the wild infections for Android?
Lol. Apparently not liking the most recent movie is a trolling offence :P

And part of the agreement with the CEO of Sidecar is that he will spend x number of years aggressively pushing the patent.
Runs quite happily on my AMD. But I don't have anything like those crazy cities that I have seen some people build so that may be the factor.
