  1. it's a great idea! on NASA Employees Fight Invasive Background Check · · Score: 1, Insightful

everyone who wants to be a government employee should have a background check done. but first every political figure, all their staff, families, pets(why not) go first. and all made public. a sound policy. i like it.

you are absolutly right. i am one of those who could be called an under achiever. i did not go to university, i escaped. any bitterness i may have had over the stupid way the cattle system called school dealt with me, i have got over it. to paraphrase heinlein you must blend in lest the other monkeys tear you apart for being different. just as true now.

my education may have started in grade two when my saint of a teacher let me run off and play with dinosaurs rather than disrupt the class, but it did not end there either. since then any learning happened from my own self study, beyond the cursory glance needed to absorb the days lesson. and it has continued for the thirty years since leaving school.

i believe the greatest gift is the ability to learn, and i use it daily, and continue to master new and varied disciplines. the theatre of my mind never ceases to amaze me. give this gift to your children, show them how to escape the rigid confines of that box with windows you're not allowed to look out of, and blossom. most of us here did it, got an education despite the 'system', and waiting for change in an establishment as large as the education monolith will leave us looking like the dinosaurs.

  4. responsibility on Journalists Sue HP For Invasion of Privacy · · Score: 1

privacy. we all want to protect it. a reporter is given inside information about a company, and writes about it. not openly, revealing their source of information, but getting it clandestinely. the company tries to find out where they got their information, clandestinely. hmmm. nobody here is questioning the reporters morals, or even deeper, those who revealed confidential company information. there will be arguments made thats what reporters do, freedom of the press, blah blah blah. but they make their livelihood from this type of espianage. so the spies are sueing for being spied on. hypocrites.

  5. MAME? on Space Shuttle Displays Go Glass · · Score: 1

Everything NASA does is done in-house.that's why their budget is 12 some billion and they manage so many shuttle launches a year. Like the time they built their own video camera for something like 180k for the shuttle and it didn't work and one of the crew hooked up a sony and it was amazing. This probably cost a half mil and could have been bought at radio shack and set up by a kid like Jason Fox for 1% of that.Typical.
