    Stop making high tech watches. They look, act and just appear ridiculous, you look like a complete fool wearing one and you simply have no need what so ever for computing ability in your watch.

    Yea, this. Plus, for every "feature" crammed in, there's one more thing to go wrong.

    I like my current, 'antiquated' watch, that does one thing and does it well - tells me what time it is.

    He does not have to surrender directly to a police officer. All he would have to do is call local media telling them where he is, cuff his own hands behind his back and lay face down in an open area with his feet crossed. The media will arrive and then call police. He would be completely safe. Or her could call any public defender and surrender to them.

    This makes me think you're an idealist.

    I'm just hard pressed to believe that the LAPD has any intention of letting him live to see a trial, considering, regardless of if or how he turns himself in.

    Better hope that niche market has enough demand in your area to warrant spending several thousand dollars on the classes, then.

    I thoroughly enjoy working on pro audio gear myself, but the fact that there's not enough demand around these parts to keep food on the table is a major factor in my decision to not pursue such certifications.

    The article you linked to seems to contradict your hypothesis:

    In other areas ALEC measured, Missouri received some of the highest marks in the country. Missouri received an A- for its education reform policies including academic standards, school choice programs, charter schools, on-line learning, and ability to hire good teachers and fire bad ones. Missouri's performance in this category was enough to earn the top spot for education reform in the country.

    So, which is it, is Missouri ranked 47th or 1st? All depends on the metric.

    But it's their own fucking state money, let them deal with it.

    Won't have to - in the rare occurrence that this idiotic bill is not voted down like a raise for schoolteachers, the Missouri Supreme Court will not allow it to stand.

    Those guys (the Justices) are actually pretty smart cookies with a lot of respect for the Constitutions and rule of law. Our legislators... well, what can I say, I only get to vote on the ones for my district!

    and these articles and the slashdot response to them are part of that race. these articles show up, and /. comments all over it, and the implications are always that "missouri's legislators are idiots" or "all missourians (sp?) all idiots".

    Yes, you spelled it right (save the lack of capitalization - Missouri is a proper noun, after all), and no, we're not. At least, not any more so than the residents of any other state.

    That wasn't even my main point which was that it is difficult to peacefully apprehend someone who is shooting at you.

    It's also quite difficult to surrender peacefully when the people you must surrender to won't stop shooting at you.

    I like the idea, but I fear the startup expenses may be a bit cost prohibitive:

    From Crestron's training site:

    You must be logged in as an Authorized Crestron Dealer or Partner to take these courses.

    Something tells me becoming an Authorized Crestron Dealer or Partner is not a cheap process.

    ADDENDUM: Here's a list of registration fees for non-Crestron dealers; looks like about a grand per class is the standard.

    and expect to keep your current job. Employers HATE that.

    Unless you specifically signed the right away on hire (and even then, sometimes), your employer has absolutely zero right to determine what an employee can or cannot do during their own, non-work hours. So, I don't give a shit if they hate it or not, it's none of their goddamn business, so long as I'm not A) using their equipment on their time, or B) creating/selling competing products.

    They pay you to do your job and keep your mind on their problem. If you aren't, they'll fire you.

    They pay me to do the job and 'keep my mind on their problem'... during the hours they pay me for. During the hours they are not paying me for, as I said, they have fuck-all right to dictate what I do.

    ^This is important, keep it in mind.

    You're probably right that he wouldn't surrender (to the LAPD) peacefully, but don't fool yourself into thinking that there are any good guys in this situation - the LAPD wants Dorner to die just as badly, if not more so, as he wants them to do the same.
