    The old codec cannot use new encoding techniques, unless a time machine is involved somehow. For H.264, it looks like 2028 is the year to celebrate its freedom from human bondage, so unfortunately there is still a lot of time left. If governments are going to issues patents, they also have an obligation to control licensing and pricing to avoid this kind of abuse.

    Like the previous response said, this particular thing isn't a product. But you are right. Long term is not in Google's lexicon. That is 19th century thinking to all the new money flying over our heads. Their products last about as the bubbles in boiling mud. BUT! Mail is still up. Despite all my ISP's ownership changes, I can keep the same email. Actually for long term, AOL is the way to go. I have a 25 year old account, but can't remember the damn password.

    You know what would be cool? If people who buy stuff formed an organization where they could rate products and post prices on a public forum. Probably best to have the government do it so it doesn't get bought out by some hedge fund guy and dismantled. Then we could have one stop window shopping and everything. So many problems can be avoided if we could only communicate more effectively.

    How about we make this about anyone breaking rules, D or R, gets punished.

    You simply cannot, not without bringing down the entire system. It is the very foundation of wealth/power. The bible passage speaks the truth: *Let the first who is without sin...*

    Let's not worry about Hillary. I'm sure she prefers to take over Kissinger's spot anyway and work the next six presidencies at the state dinners, and she won't have to deal with the press.

    Laptops do not have a hard wired switch, and with some, you can't remove the battery. The only way to know it's off is by letting it run down, but the good old CR2032 will keep everything on 'standby' for you for years :-)
