In fact, it's practically a red herring.

It's completely a red herring. It is used to distract attention away from the corruption that permeates all legislative institutions. The voters are looking for a piece of that pie. I don't believe education is of any value either. We are dealing with conditioning. This is a fatal flaw of majority rule. Corruption isn't limited to congress. It is part of everybody that votes for it. Introspection is key.

    Snowden is no patriot.

If the revelations were to cause a significant turnover in congress (like 100%) and the executive, I would consider him one of the greatest patriots of our times. If not, well, at least he tried. At least that's what I like to think. Even the release of the Pentagon Papers had no effect on the elections at all. Switching back and forth between democrats and republicans does not count. Putting Nixon out to pasture did no harm to the party whatsoever. It is still business as usual.

When it comes to authority, the mere suspicion of abuse should be sufficient to start an investigation. People in power must always be treated as suspect in an adversarial manner. In other words, always treat those with power as a hostile witness. History is full of events that justify action against them.

When did we start linking to random blogs for speculation presented as fact?

Are we supposed to believe regular mass media is any better, or even different? Since we are allowing abusive authority to prevail with no oversight, we have to assume the worse about it. Reddit is every bit as credible as the Times and the Post, which are essentially government institutions.

That's a fascinating concept. Are governments and their poorly organized systems comprised of something other than people? Aliens from another universe perhaps?
