Because you don't imprison non-violent offenders. They present no real danger. Just confiscate their key to the executive bathroom and take away their parking space. That will put the fear of god into their heathen souls.

Censorship is free speech. Granted it's a private business. They can do what they want, provided they are not acting as agents of the (American) government.
Linking to "objectionable" material (ie: "infringing") is not? Since when does copyright overrule the 1st amendment? Let's find a way to see censorship as copyright infringement. Then maybe we can put an end to it.
It was more than heavy handed. it was criminal. Whatever privacy she expected online doesn't matter. The only issue are the criminal acts committed against her. There should be charges leveled against the school officials and the sheriff.
