    i have a tough time trying to accept the possible reality of echelon in america.

    maybe at one time, the cia et al, had some kick-ass recon.

    however... if they still did today, the events of september 11th would have never happened.

    is it just me, or is there really little difference between a 600mhz celeron and a pentium 4 2ghz?

    the differences between chips of the past were easily identified... speaking in terms of visible performance gains, et cetera. i think that point vanished a little while ago in computers.

    this is purely my opinion... keep that in mind.

    but in america... local/regional/national telecos control everything. if you want on "their" pipe, you have to pay them.

    unless congress specifically says - "you don't own the lines anymore, capishe?" nothing is going to change.

    my school has essentially blocked all of the popular p2p clients. even limewire.

    in the back of my head, i always knew that having a subscription to a national dialup isp was a good idea.

    once an record co/artist allows for their song(s) to be played through mass-media outlets, they should automatically FOREFIT their right to bitch about intellectual property.

    why is it illegal to obtain an mp3 copy of your favorite song, but if you record said favorite song from the radio, you're in the clear? don't give me that line about digital quality vs. analogue quality. content is content is content.

    let me extend this to movies.

    if i record from hbo, then watch it later, it isn't stealing. but if i copy my friends genuine copy of the same movie, i am stealing?

    what the fuck ever.

    the telephone companies built the telephone lines. why should some third-party company be allowed the chance to profit from the use of the telephone companies lines in the name of competition? they didn't help build the network in the first place!

    the current (asinine) situation we are in baffles me. maybe this analogy sucks, but just follow me...

    you know... over the years... i have heard many (what i now believe to be) myths about the way our government and nation are run. here are two that i now strongly do not believe in.

    ~ saying "i'm gonna kill the president" over the phone triggers something at the teleco that will have the fbi, cia, et cetera, watching you. if this were true... why haven't i heard of this ever happening. or perhaps an assassin caught before their planned attack...

    ~ the pentagon and white house are protected by anti-aircraft guns/missiles. looks like the pentagon didn't have them... and someone crashed into the white house with a little prop plane several years ago. nuff said.

    maybe i am being way too optimistic about this, but i think this bill passed, in whole or large part, due to the desire to take a "pro-active" stand against terrorism. this bill won't matter to anyone: the jones', mr. terrorist, mr. dope smuggler... nobody.

    if this post sparks enough interest, i'll come up with more examples.

    i seriously doubt it. itunes lets you copy anything *and* listen to whatever you download from the net. no converting over to another format...

    i can't picture apple going the sdmi route.

    the case of powermacs have been set, for the most part, since the blue and white g3 hit stores.

    i find them to be very nice. why pull off a flimsy metal cover or unscrew panel when i can lift a lock and drop the whole side down?

    when i want to check the oil in my jeep, i pop the latches and prop the hood open. i don't unscrew the whole hood from the front end.

    ease of use people...
