  1. Slashdot saved my life on Slashdot Turns 5 · · Score: 0

When I was down and depressed, Slashdot was there for me. When my wife and kids had left me, Slashdot was there for me. When I recieved cancer from my CRT from reading too much Slashdot, Slashdot was there for me. When I was about to suicide due to too much Slashdot, Slashdot was there for me. Come to think of it, I think Slashdot actually caused all of these problems. I'm not sure if I should be thanking you guys...

Great work lads! Been reading every day for ~4 years now. Keep up the good work! Here's to another five!

  2. Huh? on One-Machine Linux Cluster · · Score: -1, Offtopic

Ok, one question. How would this work?

  3. Cool hack on PlayStation Portable · · Score: 0

Now if you read the site, you'll see that he did use a PSone and not the PS. Now when comparing it to a GameBoy Colour, well does the GameBoy have Gran Turismo? Now to an iBook, it's cheeper.

  4. Super-Cooling on Pentium IV study · · Score: 1

Ok, so a P IV runs well if there's an army of fans working on keeping it cool. But who on Earth wants a boxed-hurricane on their workdesk?

  5. SCARED!! on Time To Re-Evaluate Microsoft's Linux Myths Page? · · Score: 1

It seems blatantly obvious that if Micro$oft thought Linux was crap and thus offered no competition to its 'almighty' Windblows, they wouldn't bother putting up a Linux 'Myth' page. As the saying goes, 'You react defensively when you know you are in the wrong'

  6. AFL Live Editing on Real-time Video Disinformation · · Score: 2

We had this problem last year is Australia with the football. What the broadcasteing chanel would do was cover real billboards on the ground with virtual ones of higher-paying competitors. It eventually got to the state where certain media company names were covered-up by the chanel as they weren't in the same media group. The solution we found here was to stop the chanel in question from filtering out what was going on on the actual ground. If I remember correctly, they also started covering-up sections of the crowd.

  7. WinME & 2000 on Windows ME - The End Of UMSDOS And BeOSfs Over Vfat? · · Score: 1

As was stated, Micro$oft have been planning to get rid of DOS since the dawn of time. But this is something else. Win 2000 even has a little MS-DOS lookalike application. This could be not only a ploy to get other OS's off Window's boxes, but also a shot at trying to get people more into the 'life without DOS' lifestyle.

  8. Brain-wave super mouse on Possible Pics Of The New Apple Mouse · · Score: 1

There was a news story (CNN?) I saw a few years back about a guy who made a mouse which runs on brain-waves. He made a little brain-wave detector which you strap onto the tip of your index finger. All you have to do is sit there and imagine the most moving, and it moves! There was even footage of a skiing game being played with it. The story said that it'd be out in about half a year. Well so much for that! Anyone know anything about it?
