    I don't think that Samsung wants to be cut out of the Play Store and also lose all the Google propiatery apps (Gmail, Google Maps etc) just yet.

    But that is not really due to Android, this happens because the phone market is what it is. The phone manufacturers wants you to throw your one year device away and buy a new one, that's how their market model works.

    At some point Apple will have to introduce functions in IOS that makes them have to drop support for older hw, and the same will happen with Wndows Phone. It happens more frequently with Android due to the high development pace that we have seen in Android the last years.

    Regardsless of your knowledge, you still have the possibility to fix it (the can bit). The difference is that with closed software you cannot even if you would know how.

    Actually in reality many people carry out all your points. For example where I work we routinely perform source code scrrening of all the software that we use for mission critical stuff. And I do not believe that we are alone in doing that.

    Further the very fact that the FOSS projects have their sources available means that all companies that develop source code validations services (like Coverty) screens lots of FOSS sources for free during their development of their products since that is the only massive amount of code that they have access to.

    Add to that that the very bug you are replying to (the KDE bug) was found and also patched, it doesn't matter how long it took from when the bug was introduced and when it was discovered, it was still found and patched due to it beeing open sourced.

    Well I would say that Rochard, Amnesia, VVVVV, Trine 2, Steel Storm etc is quite good and fun games.

    But TPB does host with them, they may not host the front-end there but they do host the back-ends to which they tunnel the traffic from the fronts.

    Really? I have a really hard time beleiving that the police would in any way raid the sites of Amazon, Google or Microsoft. It wouldn't happen.

    Probably becayse encrypting the network is easier than securing a bunch of applications. Also there are standarads for how to secure a network so buggy and insecure implementations are less likely than with each application developer trying to secure their app.

    Are you sure? I've googled around a bit and it seams like this has to be implemented in the drivers, i.e earlier amd cards could only switch between two amd cards and not between amd and intel while nvidia could switch to intel so I guess that there was some collaboration. And evn if it's built in, does it provide exactly what dma-buf does?

    You do not choose GPL when you want to interoperate, for that you choose LGPL or one of the MIT/BSDs. You choose GPL when you want only GPL licensed code to link with your code.

    It' not a copyright on a API, nVIDIA can if they will make their own implementation of the same API and release it under whatever license they so choose. What they cannot do is to link their proprietary module with the GPL licensed parts of the Linux kernel that this API exposes. The Oracle vs Google vas an attempt to put copyright on the include file, this is nothing like what we see here.

    It's not the API, they are completely free to copy the include file and implement their own version of the API and release it under whatever license they want. It's only if they want their module to link with the specific code paths in the Linux kernel that this API exports that they have to abide by the GPL.

    The only great solution? I'm using a Radeon at the moment in Ubuntu with no problems what so ever with great performance in both applications and games, just because some people remember how bad ATIs driver where 10 years ago doesn't make their experience valid today.

    But this is not about the API, it's about linking your code with GPL licensed parts of the Linux kernel. This is nothing like Oracle vs Google.

    For your grandma, regedit is exactly as complex as the command line (what windows zealots use to say about Linux). No one has claimed that it's a 3d party application, I said since no one can use regedit then one of course cannot use regedit but are forced to use one of the 3d party applications that enables autologon.

    Since we always hear that no user shall ever have to use the command prompt (to which the registry clearly belongs) this means that it's actually impossible to enable auito login in Windows without a 3d party application.

    You have to play around with the registry, but there are 3d party applications available that does it. We used it in a previous work place to auto log in to NT machines since all the services we ran there was normal desktop applications and not windows services.

    Of course, I'm not trying to paint a rosy picture here. However the level of transparency that we have here makes it that much harder for corruption, and lobbyists have a very hard time. But as you say it doesn't make it impossible, there is probably no 100% cure, however since we often come on top of the non-curropted countries list year after year it probably has some effect, and if you are accustomed to the closed politics of the US it might be somewhat difficult to imagine how transparent it is over here? Either that or I'm completely gullible :)

    And why would you get anything back if you don't need it? Can you not just be happy that you are in a position economically and health wise so that you have no need for the welfare system while your money will be distributed to those that don't share your good life?

    Roam free? if people stopped eating animals than most probably the meat-animals would all but dissapear since no one would breed them any more, and the areals that we today grow food for these animals on would tomorrow be used to grow human food.

    One more thing, if you have a connection with Sweden then you might have heard of the Thomas Quick travesty, Consider that Expressen and DN (two newspapers) requested and god the complete e-mail correspondence from one of the members of the Supreme Court Göran Lambertz in which it was proved that he conspired with the old prosecutor and police inspector in the case (for example he wrote "since I'm supposed to be non biased can you write your own defence but put in some negatives as well and then I will publish it under my name ). That is quite high level if you ask me.
