    To be more specific, this is the article (use anything for username & password if asked). Scotland only recycles 6.1% of household waste compaired to 31.5% in the US and 52% in Switzerland!

    Well, well, well... "Europe" is it? A big place to be that generic about! :)

    I was reading in my newspaper last week that the UK, and Scotland in particular are the worst for recycling in the world... I'd try and find a reference, but i've binned the paper (landfill I bet). Even worse than the US, which really amazed me.

    We're (i'm Scottish) are actually going backward - when I was 'wee' you could get a deposit back on glass bottles. The recycle facilities at the local supermarket were actually REMOVED last year (and Edinburgh tries to say it's 'Cosmopolitan'!). The year before that the council were saving money by just landfilling the 'to-be-recycled' items...

    It's a wonderful place!

    Inmarsat-M (9600 bps) costs about $4 a minute. Inmarsat-B (64K bps) costs about $10/min

    Yeh, id's be real interesting to find out the cost of this system. Comparison wise a 64kbps VSAT works out at around $5000 a month...

    It makes absolutely no difference at all to the vast majority (say 99% at least) what their software is coded in, or what markup language looks like.

    They're interested in content for some strange reason...

    Are you really trying to say that if HTML is English-based then ALL Chinese have to have minimal English experience? I don't thik so...

    Seriously, however the count is split up - it's still a hell of a loss.

    sic, that'll be "Irish Americans" then. I seriously can't see 1000+ bona-fide Irish being involved in the disaster, ~300 UK is believable.

    Remember a large amount of Irish Americans fund terrorism through the IRA... And I don't have to say what I think of that...

    You'll be getting more than that, but yes - why not?

    Why should every sysadmin go through locking down and beefing up each and every install? What a waste of time... Much better to start with a known level and improve on that (or leave it as is).

    Remember this isn't just about software - it's about support... $3000 isn't much anyway!

    Indeed, it is Telewest's 25 UKP a month cablemodem/DSL system - I should have bothered to look at the link!
    My gusee is this guy has a 512kbit/s broadband connection into his house, and he's going to get some long-range 802.11b equiptment, and offer some service along his line
    Willing to bet he's got a 'personal' contract with them and not a commercial one... AUP, Terms of contract, ... WTF? ;)

    Hats off to the guy for being so brass!

    Whoops - I didn't read the original properly - my mistake
    Yeh, I was wondering - I know who NTL are, it seems as if they sponsor half on the English Premiership and the Scottish Premier League!
    The second link I posted might still be of interest though
    NTL and Telewest are promoting this quite a lot on TV currently - their claim of it only costing 25 UKP is quite misleading as you need to already have a cable connection (an additional 9.something UKP for Telewest, for example).

    I wouldn't trust a 'company' without a decent setup as far as I could throw them! Their domain name just contains an embedded FRAME which gets its content from a page on a Free ISP!

    Sorry to ruin this guys party, but the Java Plug-in does not use the EMBEDD tag under IE - it uses the OBJECT tag! EMBEDD is only used for Netscape browsers...

    Thin-client assumes that computer hardware is expensive and network bandwidth is cheap. Guess what? That's completely wrong.
    Guess what, you're missing the point...

    You assume your hardware is powerfull however we are quickly moving toward the use of minimal systems to interact with the net. Do I want to locally compile and process a load of data on my flash new mobile phone? No Sir...

    The era of the PC is coming to a close - we are moving towards lots of small tailored solutions - mobile phones, settop boxes and the like. You won't be browsing the web (at home) from a PC - it will be a TV...
