    "Get my point?"

Alas no, now you've just gone and rightout confused me ;0)

    My interpretation is this:

    The directive outlaws copying etc.
The directive in the clauses quoted says that members states may allow eductional establishments etc to copy stuff for non-commercial purposes if it chooses to

My understanding is therefore that the directive does make it illegal for academic copying unless a specific contradictory law is passed.

Whilst you are quite correct to point out the part about cryptography, I think you're interpretation of the other quoted section may be a little off.

Both of them start with this quote:

"Member States may provide for exceptions or limitations"

Note the word may. It does not state that these exemptions are covered from the start. These exemptions will only be put into place should the government of each particular country choose to do so.

Doesn't a grocery store sell groceries? Just a point but Tescos is not simply a grocery store. They supply a great range of products from food to clothes to electrical hardware and cds. I'm a brit and have been there myself so take it from me, Tesco...much like Asda or Safeways can have quite a large impact upon a market. They did it with designer clothes and sold them cheap as a result.

  5. Geek on GEEK Unions? · · Score: 1

Before using the words geek, our friends may want to know of the dictionary definition. I don't know the exact wording but there are 2 variants:
1: A sideshow of a circus whose act entails digging a large pit in which their act is performed
2: A sideshow of a circus of which the act involves biting the heads off live chickens and snakes.

Please use the word more carefully.

I don't know if you noticed the last word in the original message. It happens to be "haha". Now think. I think I would class this message in the "taking-the-piss" dept. And I'd just like to let you know that I am a "computer nut" to use the fools words and I just got back from a five day Biology field trip. So if we "computer nuts" know nothing about bio, then why the hell would I want to go on a bio field trip?

Gotta get in a plug for my web site:
