Scanning through the responses this is the first person I see who has actually made reference to the child porn conviction stated in the article. Personally I am quite disgusted at the sentences. He gets two years for posting some comments to incite violence but only 6 months for having images of the exploitation of minors? Someone got their priorities wrong in sentencing..
"They lost the cotents of the web server (crofters.plusnet.co.uk)"
Crofters is not THE web server. Crofters is a shell server for running cgi scripts and has always been a non-guarenteed extra addition to the service. Problems with crofters do not mean problems with homepages or the like.
At least it is completely clear cut and you know where you stand.
I am currently having issues with my employer (I work in a small company with three full time employees including me). Over a week ago, I had an accident in the work van and the boss went absolutely mental with an unjustified severe verbal critique of my driving abilities.
He fired me on the spot the next day with no investigation, no warning and no mention of making good on any monies he owed me.
Several days later I wrote to him requesting written confirmation of what was said when he dismissed me and his response was to send our office girl round to ask me if I was planning on taking the matter any further (ie legal action for unfair dismissal). She stated several things including that he would not be willing to let me drive any company vehicle as I was quite obviously speeding and driving wrecklessly. When I pointed out that the road I was on was national speed limit (60mph UK) and I was barely doing 40, all of a sudden things changed. Less than three hours later the boss realises his case for dismissing me due to 'gross misconduct' just went tits up and my case for unfair dismissal became rock solid.
My problem is that all these facts were there and available right from the get go but my boss showed no desire to learn anything other than his "gut feeling". So now he gives me a letter saying he wants me to come back as though 'nothing had happened' which I now believe to be insincere but his only option legally. Do I go back to a working environment where I am neither trusted nor wanted? (driving to and from clients is a major part of the job and my mini is neither insured nor suitable for hundreds of miles a week).
If I accept his terms and go back, all legal stance on my side vanishes. If I don't accept his terms and don't go back I don't know where I stand except I'm out of a job. How's that for a heafcuk?
I understand your bring the example to a less harsh version however I do not believe it stands.
Put yourself in the position of the victims in both cases:
a) You have had your house robbed and pictures of it are being distributed on the Internet
b) You have been raped and pictures of it are being distributed on the Internet
I really don't think that a) has many major problems but think of b). It is enough of a humiliation that the event ocurred let alone that other people are being allowed to see it.
I am left thinking if the border of free speech is being blurred. People can talk about what they like, fine but images and videos of the same events are an entirely different matter in my opinion.
They may not have been Nazi planes over San Fransisco - I've just dug around and it seems they might have been US Mustangs.
The confusion is with the cut to Archer with the Nazi's. It seems more likely that they are cutting to another part of the world where Archer is so I apologise for getting it wrong.
Hey! Maybe we find out that Kirk's an autistic in a ward on Babylon 5 who just dreamed the whole thing!
That wouldn't surprised me, the idea of a brand new flagship going off into the unknown to save humanity after Earth gets attacked reminds me of something called "Crusade". I wonder if that series would have amounted to anything if they finished it off, it was certainly better than Rangers...

Have you ever tried to educate Joe user into how to keep their machine secure? Sure you are okay to expect admins to put in the time to learn things but a large portion of Internet users have no technical clue and it would take alot of serious training to get each one of those users to learn. This isn't because they are unintelligent, they just haven't been brought up around technology and their minds don't know where to start
Like I said in the last line, the last time they published this list I *did* send in some updated stats. I work for COS, not CSAR so I don't have the current stats and I don't see the point in going and getting the up-to-date stats if they're just going to ignore me again.
I have to wonder where they get their rankings from.
I work at the University of Manchester in Manchester Computing. Our Cray (http://www.csar.cfs.ac.uk/turing/) is listed at position 120 with stats from 2000 which are out of date. It is also listed as our most powerful machine when it isn't. We have another machine which is far more powerful now (http://www.csar.cfs.ac.uk/green/) It is supposed to be one of the most powerful in Europe and has been upgraded several times in the last year alone.
Then again, all the stats on the CSAR website are well out of date, for example Green is twice the size now it was when that photo was taken and there are a load of new machines in the machine room which might stand a chance at getting on the list aswell.
I sent some updated stats last time this list was published but they paid no attention...
I literally sent back an 80Gb Seagate yesterday because it flopped out. It started running at udma33 max and also had bad sectors (sector 0 died so I had to work on data recovery, especially awkward as this was part of a two drive array). I've checked my other drive thoroughly as the serial numbers are very close together,no sign of problems though. Typical phnucking hard drives
I think this reply is worth more mention and a better mod. From my studies in Geology, I can't remember the exact figures but the fossil records of dinosaurs finish largely before the evidence of this comet in the rock strata. This would indicate that the dinos were already well on their way out and that this comet just made sure of it. I also remember being shown evidence of a massive but slow and progressive climate change happening beforehand which could be attributed to the dinos pegging it.
Of course this is all circumstantial because the fossil record is massively incomplete. Just because the fossils start to disappear doesn't mean the species did, it just means that for some reason none of the species were fossilised.
Dates are very general aswell. The further back you go with radio-isoptope dating, the more inaccurate it becomes so you can only generalise and hope you are in the right area.
I don't think the it is a case of the magnetic field actually moving, I think it is moreso a case of the magnetic field thinning with poles one way and then growing in intensity with the poles the other way. I don't know a major amount on the specifics of this, though I am aware it is a frequent occurrence in geological terms. I wonder if it is a case of the field dissipating completely before coming back the other way round, or if there is some changeover where there are different magnetic fields of differing intensities...of course I may be talking complete cobbles:0)
From what I understand of resonant frequencies, you would in effect only be hitting the resonant frequency of part of the Earth and causing that bit to shatter. If the Earth was a consistant material throughout though a huge compound it would have one resonant frequency though the fact that there are different sections made up of different materials would mean that overall there would be no one frequency which affected the whole.
There is no real benefit to which way the poles point, the only thing it would do would mean that everyone had to buy or reconfigure their compasses...hmm maybe I've stumbled on to something. Who'd have suspected the quiet compass industry of something so evil:0)
Second comment: With regards to the frequency of the Earth, the Earth as a whole will have no resonant frequency because it is made up of different sections all of inconsistant phyiscal materials. For a whole object to have a single resonant frequency it must be the same material throughout. You could possibly get a resonant frequency that would shatter parts of the Earth's crust but the impact would be limited through the existance of unconformities, folding and the huge varieties of rocks that make up the crust. So the comment you should have made is that every substance has a specific resonant frequency.
Whilst I get what you are saying, I was on the other end of this at one point. I worked for an ISP and ended up dealing with letters that often involved this thing.
Imagine if ISP accounts weren't automatically renewed every month and everyone that had an account was required to log into a website and click a button to keep their account.
Can you imagine the amount of people that would forget or not realise and then start complaining when their net access stopped working?
This kind of policy is merely based on logistics. You do not sign up for an account for a month under a contract which the ISP automatically renews, you sign up for an account with a permanent contract that exists until either party terminates it, usually with the need for 30 days notice in doing so.
So the answer to your statement: "To which I calmly replied that it was MY POLICY not to expect to be billed for items and services that I hadn't requested"
You DID request the service, what you didn't do is request for the contract you agreed to to be cancelled.
There is a lot of nonsense in many EULAs but this particular one that you have highlighted isn't one of them.
Well they apparantly put some stuff in, as per the recent hubbub about the search tab in Netscape 6 sending all searches via a Netscape server to store details.
Yes, the link does show how well DVD-R performs over DVD+RW.
I think, however you have missed the main part of this discussion. This discussion is not between DVD-R and DVD+RW, however it is between DVD+RW and DVD-RW as it is rewritable media that is in question, not simply writeable media. Both DVD+RW and DVD-RW score 36.4% in the tests. Maybe that should be an example that neither re-writeable standard is quite up to scratch yet.
Well I guess you'd better tell that to enic.cc aswell
because they do the same thing..actually they do worse because the page that comes up says either:

What amazes me more is that noone has referenced the episode of Red Dwarf/Book called "Backwards".

This had the universe run out of time, and then time started going backwards on itself and they found themselves in nodnoL
