Not really. Not everyone uses the same Ontology. For society in general for example a "list" is more akin to a set (ex: a shopping list isn't much of a list - its more a set of object/integer pairs), however in formal maths its something else, in programming its something else...

I'm just saying that since I would expect people here to use the computer nerd/hacker ontology.

Because if you do - you are either paying for other people's healthcare AND the profits of the insurance company OR you are reducing money off your neighbours (and probably having to pay more).

If you are paying additional tax instead - at least you know that the year you can't afford insurance, you're not going to die if you need a hospital - and the amount you pay isn't designed in order to make a rich company even richer.

    Stop calling it HACKtivism?

Amongst nerds (which is pretty much whoever is following it on this site) - to 'hack' does not meant the same as 'to crack'.

And calling DDOSing 'hacking' is wrong on both definitions of hack. Especially if the client is just a script kiddie using a program which s/he doesn't know (or care enough) to work out what its doing exactly.

Now I haven;t used LOIC myself, but from screenshots I saw you can apparently send your own message with the packets. So if you see an IP address trying to connect at a faster speed (as in, open up requests at a larger freqency) than would be humanely possible - then its probably LOIC. People don't mash F5 usually - and its still slower than an automated program.

To continue with your analogy - I'm pretty sure its illegal to have thousands of customers in front of the bank clerks insisting that its their turn, and not allowing real customers to access the clerks - while the bank needs to thwart their efforts by hiring more clerks and paying extra funds for nothing.

Of course its a crime - you're removing people's access to a resource someone else is paying for.

That's because Amazon is designed to withstand such heavy use. If I decide to DDOS some server which usually gets 10-15 visitors a week, I probably won't need more than a single client.

Amazon (which apparently does hosting too) - is designed to take thousands upon thousands of concurrent connections at the same time.
