The guy who wrote that article is an idiot. As if voting for one of two identical, corporate-owned candidates or a handful of third-party wackos with no chance of being elected is going to make any difference. He chastises the young for not voting and claims "their influence on politics has vast, untapped potential" that could somehow be realized just by voting. He calls the 2010 election "one of the most critical elections in years that tipped the balance of power in Congress." Seriously, just how different do you think our situation would be right now if every election in 2010 had gone the other way? That's why the protesters are protesting instead of voting, because they know that voting accomplishes nothing when the system has already been gamed to make sure the corporations win no matter what happens in the voting booth. In the US, voting is nothing but the opiate of the politically-minded masses.
And yes, I did vote in 2010 for one of the third-party wackos, for all the good it does.
That seems like it would work out pretty well, actually. Child molesters are very unlikely to have any interest in doing anything inappropriate to the elderly ("Too Old; Do Not Want!"). And being forced to take care of the elderly seems like a fitting punishment for molesting children.
Exactly. What happens when these cyanobacteria get free? Will they cover the entire world's oceans with an oil slick? Would that interfere with the water cycle and potentially end all life as we know it? Or would it just radically alter the ocean's ecosystem as oil-consuming bacteria rise to prominence to break down the new food supply?
According to Google Maps it is 219 miles from NYC to Boston. That means to that the average speed need to make the trip in 4 hours is 219 / 4 = 54.75 miles per hour, not 88. Considering the speed limit for most of I-95 and I-90 over this stretch is 65 miles per hour (occasionally dropping down to 55 miles per hour), I doubt the state police are going to have a lot of opportunities to extract funds from you.
Plenty if you actually found hard evidence to support your position (instead of just repeating whatever you heard on FOX News) and managed to get some attention amidst all the fools crying wolf.
I agree completely. The things that Mr. Lee was upset about are very real, serious problems. And he had some very good ideas about how to solve them. The problem was he chose a very poor way to express himself.
You claim that demonizing the opposition is the problem with the current system. But you also openly ridicule those who believe (correctly, imo) that humans should be allowed to die and antibiotics use is "murdering living creatures!" Not that hypocrisy is anything new to Slashdot.
The guy in TFA may indeed have been unbalanced. And it's definitely unfortunately that he choose the method he did to make his point. That doesn't mean, however, that he wasn't right (though perhaps not ultra right).

Whoosh!
The part that ends with "expensive legal fees." Unfortunately, just having the law on your side isn't enough to prevail in the US legal system.
Yes, he did.
And his is better since it goes down 37,000 ft, even if there's no place to go that's 37,000 ft down.

The 800 barrels per acre is per year, not per day. So you'd actually need 5380830 square miles, assuming they can't improve the efficiency.
