    I thought the Ruskie's where smarter than that, sounds like something nasa would propose. Russia has always had a successful space program
    because they use well tested and simple engineering. Just a capsule it goes up and parachutes back to the ground, no wings no crazy rocket
    assisted landing. The higher the component count and complexity the more room for failure.

    He already soaked me for at least another $500 a year and I barely make 50,000 . Then on top of that the state
    wants to take about another $500 so I am already another grand in the hole.

    The health care cost argument is absolutely absurd. We will all die of something someday, either lung cancer from smoking or heart
    attack, old age etc.

    Now how much do you suppose it costs to take care of a old person in a nursing home, ward of the state? Somebody has to change their
    diaper every day for the next 15 years until they pass of old age. Costs are not going to go down, plain and simple someday you die and somebody has to pay until you do.

    There are two types of people in this world, those that talk shit and those that do shit. Every so
    called "architect" I have ever met falls into the talk shit category. I also find that those that are in the
    talk shit category make up for the fact that they cannot do shit by talking shit.

    Most modern languages can be made to play rather well together, certainly in the web development arena where
    multiple languages are a must. You already have to master at least two our three languages for typical web development
    a couple more is going to make little difference.

    Fixing the broadband issue is a last mile problem and just about the only method to address that at the moment
    is through wireless. Now I am sure that the govt will step right up and give the big telecos a bunch of cash and
    tell them to go forth and provide more broadband. Trouble is the big telecos do not provide last mile wireless coverage
    mom and pop shops do. This is not a hard issue to fix if the money is placed in the right places.

    True that I suppose that if I had never written python applications and only knew java I may think it is the greatest
    thing since sliced bread also. However since I have written large applications in both java and python I know better. I absolutely hate
    crufty languages and when it comes to cruft java is the king.

    I have no doubt that java and perhaps ruby in the future will be a great cash generator. On GAE you have to pay for processing time, what
    better way to generate cash then to run cycle hog java apps on it.

    I would have to agree with the man, consider this fact. The area in which I currently live was just 10,000 years ago covered by a glacier nearly a mile in thickness. Now we
    certainly where not burning fossil fuels 10k years ago, yet somehow global warming caused the glaciers to recede and melt. Yes I do believe in global warning it has been going on for over 10k years, I do not
    however believe that man is the ultimate and or major cause.

    Well yes it will not teach you how to plug a ethernet interface into a switch. However the poster in this case said he wants to run
    in a vm environment but money is limited. In this case if he want's to play with big boxes, configuration testing etc there
    is no better option available to him than EC2.

    Amazon EC2 is what I use for stuff like this, both windows and linux boxes everything available at a single push of a button. I
    also use it alot for development, fire up a machine load and go.

    You must have been a 74B, computer "OPERATOR" then hey? There is a ASI for programmer but no positions are identified for it.

    In fact in both my service in the navy and army I never met a actual "programmer" that was military, all of them where
    civilian contractors. Not to say that you cannot program, however it is not a military provided and or taught skill set.

    I would have to call BS, there was nothing all that complex about the AEGIS system, yes I have experience with it. Anything done
    on the AEGIS system was purely at a operator type level, contractors handled the heavy lifting. Yes it still required some
    experience but nothing that could not be taught to your average 18 yr old.

    In my ten years of military service I cannot recall a single person besides myself that
    even knew what a compiler was. The data systems guys did know how to run some reports
    and such but had zero knowledge of anything more difficult than that.

    Anything requiring some sort of advanced knowledge was contracted out and for good reason, the
    military structure is not designed to facilitate such personnel. Anyone with such advanced skills
    cannot be retained in the military.

    No shit, I don't remember meeting anyone in the military besides myself that even knew what a compiler was. That even goes
    for data systems guys not a single programmer anywhere to be had.

    Now here is a perfect example of a way for Adobe to strike back at silverlight. Will they
    do this, nope I don't expect them to be smart enough to take advantage of the situation. Adobe
    should quickly deploy a file system driver and perhaps picture viewer or something to that effect
    and bundle it with flash player. Practically overnight it would be distributed to nearly every
    computer in the world, goodbye FAT. It does not have to even integrate with flash but use the
    distribution mechanism to beat them at their own game.

    Actually all the stuff I have been programming for the phone has been in C#. Not that objective C is difficult to learn either if you can actually program, it took me what about 3 or 4 nights
    to nail down the language. Just like every other language Objective C just has different syntactical sugar, nothing ground breaking just another language.
