I'm not a 100% percent sure, but I think that an established Internet-Connection within WINE won't do you any good. You might wanna have a look at the native solutions.
And nope, not directly, DirectX is a graphics layer (between Software and Hardware) similar to OpenGL, with the target to let you easily develop 3D games and applications.
I think DirectX is used for the same reason as is Windows used for servers: Because an admin/developer generation is coming out of school which got planted into their heads that Windows is the same thing as a PC and that all you need to write an application is MS Access.
After all, their marketing strategy to place their products in school was the best (for them, for the rest of the world maybe the worst) thing they ever did. I still wonder why we don't have biology education sponsored by Bayer or Ratiopharm or sports education sponsored by Nike...but we still have IT education sponsored by Microsoft.
Why do you want to run a Netscape Dialing program...and a "Web Accelerator" (I wouldn't trust such software except if it uses an outbound server which works like a proxy and compresses everything)? But both application are sounding like they have some pretty ugly API-Hacks in them...so no wonder that they don't work. And MS Word is running quiet good on WINE.
And..."DirectX11 videos" which you download...you might wanna rephrase that sentences.
Regarding the upgrades, that's the goal of Microsoft: Making more money with the customers they have. It's called a "for profit company", that's how capitalism works. Many have the money, all want it, but only one gets it.
As far as I can remember the story, they hired a company to abolish and sell the rails, and they just happily went to work without proper confirmation of the order...the moment the German Federal Railway Authorities realized what was going on, they'd already sold everything.
Well, but it's far easier then to steel the power lines. Remember, the power lines are under high voltage, so the possibility to enlist for a Darwin Award is way higher.
You think that's bad? In Germany, manhole covers and guard rails are vanishing...but the best one was when they stole 40 tons of rails...yes, the ones where trains run on.
On a sidenote, there are quiet a few stories about that over at the Darwin Awards.
What should Google do? Bringing up a big picture of that guy on their frontpage with big red letters "DO NOT EMPLOY THIS MAN"? The last time I checked, everything they could do without charging him would be called "defamation" and is chargeable.
It would only take a typo, and then all hell would break loose.
It doesn't even need to be a typo [DE, sorry], an overzealous company/employee is enough. Basically, a german 'copyright-enforcement-company' took down CC-Licensed content, because of copyright infringement...and defended themselves basically with "Well, 5 out of 5 million, who cares?".
I still don't get why Gold is an investment...especially if the world breaks down. It's always said that if the civilazation ends, Gold will be the last thing worth something. If the world is at it's edge, the last thing I'd want to carry around would be gold.
If he's coming down from heaven and tells me he loves me in person, I'm gonna bow to and believe in him. On the other hand, if Shiva comes down from heaven, I'll bow to her...same applies to the Flying Spaghetti Monster btw..
But as long as someone (a real person) tells me "you gonna give me your money and do whatever I say or otherwise you'll burn for all eternity in hell (and maybe even that I have to sacrifice myself and take innocents with me to get to paradise (crusades, stacks, anyone?)) because I have this very old book which was rewritten whenever something in there didn't suit the needs of the one in charge and I have no reasonable proof what so ever which I can show you" I'll pass that opportunity, thank you.:)
I thought the fifth element would be Leeloo, and that they're in love was just a coincidence...and maybe helpful because she wanted to let the devil bomb the earth.
Well, at least I wasn't insulting. I also don't see where I lambasted someone...maybe that was just a misunderstanding.
I don't know about Unix, but if you're using Linux for some years you have to stumble upon the fact that kernels don't get automatically uninstalled and that they stay in the boot menu. To me, trying one of the other boot options (or at least asking myself why they are there), is very obvious. Though, it might be that I'm just good at figuring (technical) things out.
I can't guarantee that you have 9 out of 10 times a usable Linux system OOB...and I wonder that you can guarantee that for Windows. I've had driver problems under Windows as I had them under Linux. I had non working Hardware under Windows and under Linux. I had to tinker under Windows as I had to under Linux. The only difference for me is that I have a better chance to figure problems out under Linux then I have under Windows.
Yeah, because Windows never has problems after updates. *sniggers*
But to add something constructive. You could have tried to boot the old kernel, at least that would've ruled out a problem with the driver, or if it works on the old one, then it is a problem with the driver. And please don't say that the "average user should not need to know these things". That's like saying "I've changed the tires on my car but one of them is flat, what do I do now?".
I agree...most of those Demos of Microsoft Surface can be done with a simple Touchscreen or even completely without it. Some of those even faster and better with a mouse and keyboard.
Sexual abuse isn't the only kind of crime that receives unusually harsh punishment.
Wait a minute...you're saying that raping someone is punished too hard? In what country do you live? Here in Austria I have to think twice if I really want to download that song (3 years) or if I go rape someone (1 year top if it was just rape).
Actually, the german Copyright-Association (which name I've forgotten right now) has (or does) collect a fee on printers because they "can be used to illegally copy copyrighted material". There next cue was to collect that fee for harddisks, too (they already do for CDs and DVDs), because you can use them to "store illegally obtained copyrighted material" on them.
So, yes, you pay them a fee for burning a Ubuntu CD...gotta love the system!
No, the main problem is a generation of Admins which think that it is a good thing to use an Operating System which was intended for the 'dumb' desktop user, and not servers.

Unforeseen consequences.

Okay, why isn't there an "Awesome" mod?
What should Google do? Bringing up a big picture of that guy on their frontpage with big red letters "DO NOT EMPLOY THIS MAN"? The last time I checked, everything they could do without charging him would be called "defamation" and is chargeable.
They withdraw Ubuntu points for "Driver & Compatibility" because there's no iTunes for Linux? What the...

Nah, that would be dismissed immediately, unprovable claim.

As far as I know, they were *forced* to because they used GPL-Licensed code.

this is something the sniggering asshole patrol will never understand...
And for a short moment I really thought this would be a serious, nice and constructive discussion. :(

You haven't followed the news about the Iraq and Afghanistan, have you?
