    No there is always a need for more power back in the day 80's) having 17 Prime 750's (largest non black installation in the UK ) running your map reduce program was cool but now its a 10k Core Hadoop cluster.

    Germany is keen on zee Guns - I recall talking to an old school mate who was a secretary working for deutsche bank in the UK and the German expats where most upset about not having their armed body guards (and presumably PPW's) when they got posted to the UK.

    In post ww1 Germany it was the socialists and the communists that really didn't get along (as a result of the crushing of the Bayerische Räterepublik) it was that split in the left that helped Hitler gain power.

    Well it was sort of at the start there is an amazing section on kershaws 2 vol bio of Hitler which has Goebbels excited running into a party meeting and announcing that "Hitler has abandoned socialism"

    Well you could go for the exposed industrial lab - look extra bonus points if you go for full service and have compressed air throughout the building. Or just go for the civil engineering solution and only let your architects chose the paint colors and nothing else.

    ah no it was a research association based at CIT so sort of a half way house but the prestige of working their meant that pay was depressed all round the civil service (know for low pay) paid more

    BT tried wave guides as an alternate to fibeoptics near the main BT labs in ippswitch there are still roads with test wave guides running along side them.

    Actually not I was paid the massive sum of £1620 PA that was back in 79 though the guys doing their PHd's where paid a bit more than us

    and they also get poor wages I worked at a word leading RnD organization as a research assistant and I was at the time paid abotu 1/3 of what a nurse was (the roles had the same educational entrance requirements :-( and this was when nursing was consider a badly underpaid profession.

    Serious HPC uses FORTRAN some of the kids on the variety club bus (the one with the tasty windows) seem to want to switch to C++ but thats a world of butt hurt.

    and its the Gillette model AWS starts out cheap but costs can rack up quickly
