These situations do not exist in a vacuum. They are incremental, building up slowly until you realize you are in a situation you absolutely don't want to be in.
I had a situation once where I was inebriated at a small party. One of the guys who I knew to be gay and who I considered a friend started to get aggressive in his sexual advances. I kept saying no but he was *very* insistent. I ended up having to leave because I felt so uncomfortable.
This is something that few hetero men ever deal with but happens all the time to women and gay men. It's not ok to act like that. It is predatory.
They are just trying to curry favor with their electorate because they know that a shake up is coming*. They want to stay where they are and so they need to make a lot of noise that sounds really good to distract from anything else going on. I see these people as the smart ones.
Don't think for a minute that "legit" companies wouldn't engage in this activity if it wasn't illegal and they thought they could make money off of it.
In addition, most of those activities require elevated privilege on a Windows box. So unless the user turned off UAC (usually only "advanced" users do this) the malware cannot delete shadow copies or windows executables or HKLM registry keys.
There is no such thing as reality television because reality is boring.
Everything you see on television is heavily edited and curated and does not even resemble reality whatsoever.
But, you know, I am sure that Apple's research discovered that their fan base are the ones already watching the dance or singing or losing weight "reality" shows already.
I mean, Apple could have chosen to make any kind of show imaginable and throw a lot of money behind it and made it great. But what did they choose? "Reality TV", the lowest common denominator.. because that's where their users already are AND it has the highest rate of return.
You just assume that everyone wants to keep their first born and not give their data to the NSA...
I am sure some people would love to take a kid off their hands. As for the NSA... well, we already give them all our data so why does it matter if that is or isn't in the TOS.
The only "good" deal that remotely appealed too me was the fire tablet for $33... I *almost* bought one... but then the reasoning part of my brain intervened and the impulse evaporated.
I also considered that, but my reasoning was "maybe they are trying to be responsible by trying to make sure that people don't overextend themselves".. but then my next thought was "yeah... right"
After all, they probably know better than anybody what the spending habits are for their customers.
Perhaps they purposely chose the lowest volume day of the month (or even year) and figured they would A) increase sales numbers for that day and B) generate buzz (free/cheap advertising)
Personally, I believe that the people who *should* be in power are too intelligent to run for a federal office. Local, maybe, but you have to compromise too many ideals to run for a federal position.
The thing is, any mammal can be a rabies carrier. But we seem to have a disproportionate fear of bats for some reason.
People don't seem to have the same level of fear for rats and raccoons. This despite the fact that we probably come in closer contact more frequently with them than we do bats.
robocopy, my friend, robocopy...
We could forgive him if it was his first day... but this is at least his 5,110th day...
You are missing the point.
This isn't really about the content. This is about the fact that he violated (possibly knowingly) the TOS for the platform he was using.
Even if he didn't know he was violating the TOS he should have backed up his stuff.
14+ years on the Interwebs... he has no excuse for remaining ignorant about backups.
You are missing your opening tag. Therefor I am not able to parse your sarcasm.
People are tired of the elite ruling
I don't understand this line. Isn't Trump part of the "elite"
He currently has the power to change the course of thousands of lives if he so chose.
He runs in the same circles as the "elite" right now.
How does that not make him a part of the ruling class?
Dude, nothing on the Internet is reliably substantiated. It is a web site.
You are right that there are definite libel concerns which I am sure will not be overlooked.
However, remaining silent about it is only allowing the creep to continue his predatory practices.
At least now, people might think twice before getting into a situation where they are alone with him.
That is exactly what I am talking about.

Not just Chinese companies...
How about a NJ company too?

Yeah, the same company behind superfish has a "secure" web browser too.
Just because rape can be violent doesn't mean that it is always violent.
People like Jacob Applebaum use their power and influence to manipulate people into doing what he wants.
I have experienced these types of people first hand and it gives me chills to think about even now.
I, for one, am glad that someone created the http://jacobappelbaum.net/ website. It brings awareness and calls him out on his BS.
People like this subsist on the goodwill and empathy of others.
In my book, Jacob Applebaum deserves to get kicked off the board. He brought it on himself.
Sadly, I don't think it will slow him down too much. I am sure that this is not the last we hear about this man.
Also, if Jacob Applebaum was a woman, we likely would not be hearing about this at all...

Well, except that the thing appears to do enough damage to the system that not noticing it seems unlikely.

I am sure they carefully chose the day.
After all, they probably know better than anybody what the spending habits are for their customers.
Perhaps they purposely chose the lowest volume day of the month (or even year) and figured they would A) increase sales numbers for that day and B) generate buzz (free/cheap advertising)
Seems like the simple solution to your "hack" is to lock the BIOS (so you cannot change boot order) and use full disk encryption.
Robert Half
That's your problem right there.
Personally, I believe that the people who *should* be in power are too intelligent to run for a federal office. Local, maybe, but you have to compromise too many ideals to run for a federal position.
I've been out fishing many times at night where they bump and hit my line
What if, instead of this being by accident, they actually "saw" the line as an insect? That would make their echolocation really accurate then.
The Bat
And here I thought that you were going to talk about an e-mail client
The thing is, any mammal can be a rabies carrier. But we seem to have a disproportionate fear of bats for some reason.
People don't seem to have the same level of fear for rats and raccoons. This despite the fact that we probably come in closer contact more frequently with them than we do bats.
I, for one, welcome our new bat overlords.
