No one will pay M$ extra for this and they will look even worse if they try to enforce it. I think you could win the argument with the one socket = one CPU, no matter the CPU design. It will be fun to watch.
I worked a job once, running pipe through the tunnel system at a western University. When classes started in the fall of '81, we were amazed at the number of coeds wearing dresses with nothing under them. Storm grates serve many purposes. I guess we all perved out a bit at the free show.
I don't think that NForce2 boards are prohibitivley expensive. They come in lower than several high end P4 boards with or without Rambus memeory.
Rambus can't compete with DDR because the total price is too high by comparison. CPU, memmory, and motherboard make any comparible DDR systems cheaper. A P4 with DDR can perform very close to a P4 with Rambus. Add AMD to the equation and except for a hardcore gamer people wouldn't even notice the difference except in their wallets.
Sure it's better technology, but it's not that much better to justify the price difference.
Thats it. The performance did not justify the price premium. Regular DDR was as good as was needed to do anything. It still is. The bang for the buck factor spelled doom for Rambus.
You are absolutly right about the lack of training in most businesses.
But wrong about replacing the employees with someone who can do things faster. They get ones who will work for less. Cutting payroll costs gets middle management promoted.
"They're close to the "put up or shut up" point in that case." And they have postponed it the last 3 times. Someday the Judge will wake up and put and end to this. You know they will try to delay it again, and again, and again.............
I ment to mention that by pissing off the NRF they brought another set of very deep pockets into the battle. Why would anyone in their right mind want to tackle Wal-Mart and IBM?
Do you get the feeling SCO is wandering arond like a blind wounded elephant? Stomping the few things that can help? This is not a strategy by a company that plans on surviving. The are obyiously under the direction of another entity, like there wallet(M$).
I agree that M$ is losing it's grip on reality with this proposal.........Unless, by then, there are a raft of games that require similar hardware.
M$ hasn't figured out that the early ninties are over. When we needed to upgrade all hardware substantially for the shift from DOS to the gui. Wordperfect and Lotus 123 ran most offices that used computers. Well, business apps don't drive the computer industry anymore. Games do! Nobody on this planet needs a 3Ghz box to run Office(it aint that bloated yet!), but they want one for Doom or Battlefield!
In three years the chance that any business will upgrade to that level just to pay more M$ tax will be small indeed. With luck most will have switched to a flavor of Linux by then.
I've thought for years that AMD offered more bang for the buck. I've got 2 2000+ boxes now and would not hesitate to go with AMD for my next box. Intels occaisional lead in performance is always overshadowed by the price. I get better performance per dollar from AMD. I use the AMD heatsink/fan and have never had a heat problem with 2 case fans (80mm in and 92mm out), Antec 1600 case.
Spent 5 months in NYC in 77. Believe me, if it's bolted down and locked, it just takes a bit longer. If they want it they will get it. You can't stop them, even with an armed guard, he will get bribed.
They may not have invented corruption in NYC, but they have tried to perfect it.
Do you even suspect whats in your carpet?, on your mattress(besides stains)?, or especially in the ventilation system of your house or office? Those are really scary. It's enough to keep you from ever going to a hotel or motel again.
Of course we have all been exposed to so much of it the immunities are quite active and most of us won't ever notice.
Reading the article shows that he thought that this rule did not apply to him. Based on the size of the fine, it doesn't. After all most of us put a larger percentage of our net worth in our gas tanks last week.
Universities hire PHD's to do research, period. They will have to teach some classes, but wheather they can teach or not has nothing to do with their getting hired or not.
is the pitter patter of tiny feet. The rats (investors) are abandoning a sinking ship. It will soon turn into a stampede.
Enjoy the show!
We would, unfortunately no one has figured out how to make a profit on it yet. Heaven forbid we ignore the coporations that send our jobs overseas.
Gee and I thought they were just copying AMD.
And still losing sales.

Don't kid yourself, female like to get laid too! At least my wife says so.

I hope you are correct. We all want the final ruling against SCO to be bullet proof.

I use Rh9 for serious work and Win XP for games. Make your own decision.
If you look at net profit and total operating budget for any year you care to name, AMD is still "the little guy".
A good AMD motherboard costs about the same as a good P4 MB now days. That makes an AMD system still cheaper.

Anytime the little guy wins a round I cheer.

I think you got it. No real need to do another downgrade of windows(performance, security(mine)) just to make the RIAA, MPAA and M$ feel better.
Your sig is scary, very scary.
