Ahhh HELOOOOOOOO!!!! Windows NT4.0 has always had the "last known good profile" thing at start up. 2000 is just a newer implementation of the kernal. "I have a second computer next to it running W2K and I actually do alot of stuff with it." Ya, porn will download faster on Win2k. But I do agree about the stability. We have an MP3 server running 2000 Workstation on a P90 with 32Meg of ram and have not crashed the thing in 3 months.
Jesus dude,... Take it for what it is. I'm still kinda new here, but there seems to be a long-standing tradition of engaging in wild conspiracy mumbo-jumbo, and about 5% of it is actually serious "Frankly this entire affair has deeply shaken my faith in human nature." If you are getting your faith in human nature from a message board, you need to get out, meet some real live human beings and get some sun. This is not meant as an attack, or the start of a flame war, but sometimes people take these things a little too seriously. Natalie Portman sucks.
give a bunch of geeks a stick and a donut and tell them to make a sundial, the first thing they want to do is plug it in. Have you considered removing the all the fans from the box, connecting a long length of flexible ductwork (ACE Hardware $2.00) to the case, Duct tape is fine, running it to somewhere else and connecting a fan (ACE Hardware $10) and crank that sucker up? the air flow should be tremendously better than the 2 1/2" fans that are in there now, and perfectly quiet.
OK. I had my first experience with a Mac 2 yr. ago. Coming from a Microsoft world it seemed incomprehensible that it would take me 20 minutes to figure out how to eject a floppy or even longer to change my wallpaper. I don't find the OS intuitive at all and feel it's restrictive to the point of being useless. Most people that "love" Mac have grown up with it (why I don't know). So far, I find Linux much easier to get around.
Confession: My primary box is a Win2k. (feel free to rip me a new one, but the thing just won't crash) This is not to say I dislike other OS's. I have an Imac, several boxes running Mandrake and a BeOs box. Love them all. My dislike of Mac stems from the heavy handed, self-indulgent attitude I see spewing forth from them. I agree that the Mac OS has some inherent advantages over Wintell, and probably always will. But the arrogance of the company and disregard for the needs of the end user (No floppy on Imac's and lack of upgrade capability as a prime example) choke me like a,.. well like a Mac user trying to use a PC. God forbid the hype actually works and you start to like the things, then you might put up a website, or (Gasp!) tell someone about it. Then you get sued. How they have managed to maintain a fan base, I have no idea. Maybe it's time they came down off the mountain and tried living life like a real human being instead of sitting on high and decreeing what we will like next.
I hate to ask, but most of the time, it's the stupid stuff that will do you in. Did you check the interupt and timeout settings? might have been fine at a lower CPU speed, then showed up when you upgraded. Can't tell you how many times upgrading to "Better" hardware often shows up problems that were already there.
I just set up a lousy 486 in the corner with a FastSczi card several external sczi cases left over from some Mac's we had laying around. the drives format PC just fine, the drives mount automaticaly and I can swap them out at need. cost? Bout a hundred bucks a drive and a little scrounging for the PC parts. if you want a couple external cases, let me know, have a ton of extras.
So what if he owns stock..I OWN stock in most of the companies that dived, but I'm not crying about it. Some of us at least have the brains to know that out stock problems are not going to get any better by sitting at home whining about it to the rest of the world.

It's a small world after all, it's a small world.........
I never said connect the duct work to a jet engine, an apropriate fan will be silent.

Having more than one or two OS's on a desktop is like asking to be kicked in the nuts by a horse.

Haven't seen Dragonball Z yet.. always been more of a A-Ko kinda guy.
If your primary reason for being on IRC is to pick up chicks, you will wind up a very sad, sad lonely old man.
