Pretty true. But Marxist communism is the ideal form of government(or lack thereof, he does say that eventually there will be no need for government). It all boils down to who has the money. Technologically inclined people are in an odd spot though. We support civil liberties, which makes us Democrats(If you will forgive my comparison to American politics), yet we also have money available to us if we go into the right field. This makes us Republicans. We are, so to speak, the stem cells of educated people. The liberal arts may be the only area that we don't neccessarily excel in.

First of all, it's just a TV show. There is life outside of TV! Secondly, could this also be bad publicity? What happens when some company sues Linus for creating Linux, and then uses this show to prove that Linux is a so-called "hacker" OS?

Who cares. We probably speed up the discoveries of those scientists who read our comments! Think about it. If there are enough people looking at their website and if 25% of those people are commenting, there are still a consiberable amount of comments. Since most people comment more than once, that effectively doubles the number of comments. No offence to anyone, but about 15% of these comments are then actually on topic and contributing lots of things. That means that 7.5% of the comments are useful and relevant. If the scientists want some help, or just fresh-thinking, they could log in with a high threshold of 3 or 4. This would contribute many new ideas to research projects. On a side note, what do you people think of /. being labeled as a "weblog" by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal? I didn't like it. Since there are so many stupid people in America, I'd expect the /. effect to increase over the next couple of weeks. I know that this article is an old one that was two or three days old, but I'd like to see /. continue to prosper.

Modulating the neutrino beam might be the biggest problem that you will have to overcome. After you can modulate the beam, it would be easy for you to figure out where the sub is. just have it contact first to transmit it's coordinates to the naval base or other sub. Detecting the beam I think might be fairly easy. I remember reading an article a long while ago about how neutrinos, when they pass through heavy water, cause a disturbance which can be monitored for. The beam could be set at different frequencies and thereby transmitting stuff like binary or hexadecimal numbers. This would of course prompt us to develop a better and more accurate coordinate system. And I would certainly like to see a good sub battle sim that works on computers other than the Mac Plus (A Mac Plus was my first computer. I had gotten a Sub Battle Sim that only worked on that computer. Good ol' system 6.). I haven't played any sub sim that was as good as that one.
