It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. And I did, although it was 20 years ago. It was truely a beautiful area (at least, outside the city limits - The sunsets are unbeleivable). But, when I lived there, jobs were very scarce, homelessness was a HUGE problem, and you had to kick the used needles the druggies left behind out of the way to play in the parks.
Granted, that WAS 20 years ago, things have probably changed for the better. One can hope, at least.

I was under the impressrion that the macrovision copy protection required both a hardware and software element... meaning that if the recording device and the media being copied both have macrovision on it, then the copies fail (or the signal is interfered with so it records funky). I used to have 2 VCR's, a newer and an older one. If I tried recording from the old to the new, it would crap out, but if I did the recording on the old one (without macrovision on it) then everything was hunky-dory.

The point I'm trying to make is that if this new copy protection works the same way, then it will only work on brand new hardware... so just hold on to those older devices.
Of course, they could try to release cd's that only work on macrovision-enabled cd-players, but I don't think that would go over too well("You mean I have to buy a new cd player to listen to the latest Britney Spears P.O.S? Fook that! I'll get it off the net!")

News programs that focus only on honest and fair reporting (there were a few, over the years) have failed or changed formats over the years, because that's not what people wanted. People like hype and dirty laundry.

In a lawsuit filed today, CRAP (Cruiseline and Railway Associated Protectorate) has filed suit agains al of the world's major airlines, citing unfair competetive practices. A spokesman for crap made the follwing statement:
"Because the airlines can get people from coast to coast, or even overseas, in an incredibly short amount of time, we can't compete. Therefore, we want to limit them to travelling at the same speeds as passenger trains and ocean liners."
When informed that reducing airspeeds to such an extent would cause airplanes to fall out of the sky, the represenative replied, "That's their problem."

Okay, so that's a little silly, but the point is, it's stupid to use litigation to limit competition, which is what a lot of entertainment companies these days seem to want. And, it's even more ridiculous building obsolesence into your technology to discourage fair use.

I've known people who play so many games, they never go out for anything. These people are usually completely miserable bastards... But you can't blame the games, because there are plenty of other people obsessed with gambling, card games, chat rooms, etc. And, all this about online play helping people interact is pure bunk. Dealing with people on a computer screen is not the same as dealing with people face to face.

If they were trying to drum up interest, they should have said something like: "Hey, this will let you download more porn much faster!"
The thing is, if this takes ten years before it gets to the point that this memory is cheap enough for widespread use (like it says in the article), then there will probably be something else with similar functionality already in place, and the whole thing will go the way of 8-track tapes.

First of all, define racist. If you mean generalizing people's behavior based on race, then re-read your own statement. You seem to have some pretty strong opinions on how all white people act.

The second thing, you seem to think that whatever crimes you think white people are guilty of doesn't apply to other races. Do you think white people invented murder? Genocide? Slavery? Subjugation? All of this has been around as long as humanity has existed. By participating in those crimes, all white people have done is prove that they are as flawed as everyone else.

The third thing is, you seem to think that a crime committed by a white person applies to all white people. This is not true. This is, in fact, the core of racism, and it is what needs to be fought, on all fronts, in order to live in a multicultural world. Treat people as individuals, and not as how they are portrayed in media and stories, and have respect for everyone as an individual.
