  1. ~80% Increase on Super Strength Substance Approaching Human Trials · · Score: 0

Imagine being able to go from 100 kilos to 180 - a pretty significant gain. I don't see how the likes of the Army or Marines could pass something like this up.

  2. "Field Ice Bath" on Zombie Pigs First, Hibernating Soldiers Next · · Score: 0

This seems like a really great idea to me - very similar to the procedure for open heart surgery, where patients are put into a bath of icewater to slow down their metabolism. I think this could save a lot of lives, and could be extended to other non-military applications, as TFA points out.

  3. Stand Out on What Do You Look For In a Conference? · · Score: 0

My advice would be to set yourself apart as much as possible. There are just so many conferences out there, and so much competition for the scarce training budget funding, you need to do something to make yours stand out. Maybe you need to think about a niche market or a more targeted audience. If you pick a broad topic like "Java", you will be up against the big boys with the reputation and history to back it up.

I personally view my coveted conference as the time to get caught up on the "cutting edge". See what the newest research and development is. More importantly, to meet peers in my field and exchange battle notes. My advice: stand out and make it worth it to me.

  4. Basic Premise of Article on Air Force Extends Plug-and-Play Spacecraft · · Score: 0

Just curious, but has anyone else taken a step back and wondered *why* the USAF needs to build satellites more quickly? In reality, they are probably just planning ahead for when giant satellite killing lasers litter the ground and they start dropping like flies (or whatever else the planners have come up with). If this trend continues, will we launch fleets of these things? We already have a pretty large cloud of sattelites orbiting the earth.

I don't think you're reading the situation quite right. As a branch of the USAF, theAFRL (Air Force Research Labs) would never report to NG. I've been on contracts similar to this. Basically, NG will be expected to deliver some sort of "architecture" that will provide guidance to the AF.

  6. Re:Moore's Law Extended? on Aussie, Finnish Researchers Create a Single-Atom Transistor · · Score: 0

Interesting question. Moore's Law originally spoke to the number of transistors on a single chip. So you could argue that we would have to make bigger chips to keep up. However, I believe the intent of Moore's Law is in the computing power. So, once we have reached asymptote on the size spectrum, I wouldn't imagine an end to an increase in power.

Hey Sycraft - good points. I would actually like to believe this, but I think it's more complex than that. Have you ever taken a look at Al-Jazeera? I'm always amazed at how completely biased that outlet is. I'm not saying that CNN/FOX/whatever doesn't have any bias, but at least they make a pretense of trying to present both sides. With such an unbalanced stream that coming not from the government (?), you have to think that the bias will continue. How could it not?

I can't believe I used my last mod point before I saw this. Wouldn't have made much difference, as you are a coward.

It's amazing the things we feel we can say online behind the cover of anonymity that we would never say in person. Could someone with a mod point please -1 Troll this guy?
