If you only have an emergecy distance of 25km then that would easily be able to be left in the battery. I'm sure they would have atleast 50-100km left in the tank at all times.
They won’t be using it to replace generation just to help out during peak times (when wholesale electricity reaches extreme levels, like $3000 per MWh). Also they wouldn’t completely empty your battery; If you go with the betterplace battery model then if a peak period starts and you have a full battery they would discharge from the better place charging outlet to a level where the car could still do what it might do that day (gps analysis). Unless an emergency occurred and you suddenly needed to get 180km away in which case you would swap the battery for a fully charged one at your closest betterplace battery swapping station. This system allows for even cheaper electricity because better place buys it for you at off peak prices and makes a profit off the peak times, hopefully passing some savings on to the customer.
Option 2 involves creating a new ruling class over the previous. What new jobs are these people at the top going to do? and are the people being replaced by machines capable of handling the next level up?
Sure it won't kill the industry, like when %50 of American workers used to be farmers before all the tools available brought that down to %2 (every one still needs food). Luckily the industrial revolution was taking off and we could push all the unemployed into factory jobs, but I’m not sure we will have the same vacant market created by robotics.
I'm sorry mate, I’ve been looking but I can't find it. It happened about a year ago and "study" may have been an exaggeration. It was more of an observation that after the iphone and ipod have been released we aren’t seeing the same kind of technical activity on the web from the younger people that we used too. It's not hard to believe i hate to get all back in my day, but back in my day you had to understand how to install the os, the file structure of the hard drive, what type of files do what, and maybe a little programming in order to get what you want. Now all you have to do is swipe your way through the itunes store and push the picture of what you want to play. Maybe the inner workings of the computer will be less important in the future, especially for the majority; but my kid will be getting the most open, most customisable, most diy platform possible (with their accelerated learning and so much free time what’s to lose).
That's the biggest trouble with wars for America, all the pay checks that have to get written. Although leaving all those thugs at home on welfare won't be much fun either.
I wouldn't be too worried guys. From TFA the test was done by recording readings every 2 seconds. No power/meter company does that you would need unthinkable amounts of data storage (usually a 10-30 minute load profile). Also if you have already glued your tin foil hat on a battery or capacitor bank would completely hide the data.
Fair enough and to be honest these ipads propberly arn't running a caculator but some maths education game. Even if it dosn't harm the kids, I don't see it boosting test scores at that age.
The ipad will make some things easy is in the short term but not in the long run. I was never allowed a calculator at that age (even though very good ones existed) because we were expected to learn how to do it our selves. If the todler learns that every time he needs to add somthing it easier to use an app that's what he is going to do for the rest of his life.
If you want them to compete with the Chinese, then why are you giving them apple products that have been shown to retard kids computer learning? Seems to me you want to produce a new generation of consumers not creators.
As much as i like and want that too. The only people that can really change the situation are happy with the way it is. You wont see apple wanting to give away the irobot for free, and its those kind of compannies that fund presidental candidents. Riots and revoultion is a possible solution; or the one from the 'australia project is 1 billion people all give $1000 to generate 1 trillion dollars to buy land, and use all this new no human effort tech to set up a new society.
Not saying it would defiantly work, maybe everybody will just watch TV all day. But if you do pay everyone the same then you only get the people that are really interested in neurology, not the people chasing the giant pay checks; and if you can no longer better your neighbour by just earning more you have to better them with accomplishments. Also greasy spoon guy is out of the job a robot can easily do his job now; and if TFA is to be believed surgeons/doctors will be out of the job fairly soon too (IBM Whatson is starting work as a doctor now).
Engineers and programmers will be around for a long time, but its just like any other job; you can break it down into simple parts, analysis the different options then integrate the best solution. An advanced AI could generate every different control software option possible then chose the most effective. Creativity, like finding new uses for robots will be around for a much longer time.
I understand you still need a fibre backbone and hopefully its a lot faster than 1Gbps. i'll admit i'm biased and not your average geek, because i plan to be moving onto a boat soon and our NBN isn't going to hook up jetties; but I’m seeing more and more (non-geek) homes that are going to a wireless only service be it though a Smartphone, tablet, or wifihotspot, hell 3/4 of our MP's have ipads they use 10 times as much as their home desktop computer; so connecting all this fiber straight to their front door could be a waste when all they really want is fast facebook or netflix while out and about. So i wonder if putting all the tax payers money into NBN to the node could make people happier bettering the wireless network. Personally i would prefer 100Mbps any where i want than 1Gbps only at my desk. Although i understand this soultion dosn't suit everybody; if you never leave your parrents basement your better off with the fibre:).
Which brings up the important point that if you did have a terrabit fiber connection to your bedroom and wanted to utilise it for download, you would need to install a new hardrive every 8 secdonds (24 secs for a 3TB).
In a world where every one is going mobile and wireless, you could be shooting your self in the foot with an expensive network that will be used less and less.
I completly agree if i bought the game i want to be able to play it any way i want. For example single player games are good but i dislike the one track to victory; so offer all the big maps as battle field games with bots. I know that would steal customers from online services, but its cheap to implement, extends the game as far as any one wants and allows for fans to easily use custom maps.

it's 8 chapters long

Sure it used to be like that when a couple of guys could start a computer company in their garage, but I wouldn't like their chances any more.

Fair point, although then you'll have desperate thugs, but I guess they wont be a problem just send the kill drones after any trouble makers.

Yeah because women don't get objectified outside of science and engineering.
heads up display glasses, possibly brain computer interface.
Your right tablets are only a fad. Once we figure out hd heads up displays no one will even remember tablets. Time to patent air dialling, i think so.

Especialy in places like America with limited welfare. If you expect Intel to feed the homeless you might be in for a rude suprise.

Of course if you built massive 10 lane high ways every where, then some one makes flying cars popular, your up shit creek.
