  1. sort of interesting... on Open Source Nanotechnology · · Score: 1

I was about to submit a story about nanofabrication labs, but instead i submitted a story about shooting pumpkins 1000's of yards...:)

back on topic...about 2 weeks ago, some of my peers went on a field trip to the nanofabrication and nanotechnology labs at Penn State University, and from all the stuff they saw and showed me, it was pretty darned cool. They did all sorts of things there...but I thought the coolest thing was the way they would coat metals and such by shooting streams of electrons at a chunk of metal...such as gold....and the microbits of gold would then cover the object in like...1/100000 of an inch layers...this nanotechnology and fabrication stuff is neato.

*hint...ice is cool...so this is sorta ontopic.

  3. price on Sony/Transmeta Video Laptop · · Score: 1

The 2300$ pricetag seems high, but that is nothing compared to what you are getting. First of all, you are getting your whole editing studio right there....in the palm of your hand...you have the camera, the computer, everything. THis is perfect for people that can't afford high-end editing equipment and such. This is also perfect for anyone that needs to do a lot of on-site editing without dragging along an extra laptop, batteries and all sorts of stuff. It also has a transmeta chip, which means the battery you have will last a lot longer...this alone is worth some extra $$. I think the price is very reasonable for what you are getting. Also, when more companies start to make their own picturebooks, the price will be driven down even further.

the only thing I can think of that would make this thing better is a built in cdburner or dvdram.

First of all, I was sort of wondering how it is possible to have a "stroger" focus on video..is that something like a "stronger" focus on video?

This camera/computer thing is pretty neat. There have been a couple of other attempts in the past at this sort of thing. I have a friend who was looking into buying into this sort of thing a while back, but he said that they were severely limited by the speed and by the size of the hard drives. He didn't mind a high-cost, but for what he needed them for (onsite editing and such) they were an impossibility. This new thing seems to have those problems beat, and with a reversible screen to boot. I really like it, and it doesn't look like the new viao! Definitely a plus in my book.

I have been saying this for a while, but people like me, who live out in the stix...aren't helped at all by these companies that are loading the internet with highbandwidth connections. Almost all of these new pipes and stuff are only available in large cities. I can't even get cable where I live, and the phonelines are old and not capable of dsl or anything. What would really impress me is a company that sets out to give country folk a connection to the internet. I get 36k on a good day....

Some people say that this will never happen because there isn't enough people living out here to make it economically viable, but I disagree. One satellite dish or something set on a mountain nearby could connect people within a 30 mile radius of me. That is a lot of people...and I know most of them would jump at the chance of getting high speed internet access. I would be willing to pay more than $100 a month for a good connection. Trout Run Pennsylvania needs broadband. :) Thanks for listening to my rant. erm..reading even.

Thank goodness I am not the only person that dreams about tetris. I thought I was some sort of freak or something. I often dream that I am part of the falling blocks, and I fall along with them. What is really weird, is sometimes I will wake up on the floor, appearently fallen from my bed. Now what I would like to know...is if my dream caused me to roll off my bed, or if the entire dream occured once I was in the air on the way to the floor...

After some reading and discussion with my friends, I found out that more of your brain is being utilized during dreaming than during the day. That is why everything can seem so real. Dream reality is more real than regular reality because our mind thinks it is. Not only that, but and entire 6 hour dream sequence can take place in a matter of minutes or seconds.. This proves that our brain works about 300 times harder when we reach REM sleep than when we are awake. Some weird stuff.
