As you can see in the graph of TFA, it has been colder and warmer than the mean line (hint: its the red dots) As you can see in the graph of TFA, it has been colder and warmer than the mean line without us doing a lot (hint: its the red dots)
The problem is that you WANT a warmer climate and when you are proven wrong then the "cautionary principle" is called in to underline your presumptions. Data, or it wont happen.
TFA --> (hint: its the red dots) No 2000 years is nothing, let alone 50 years of industry by men. Yes, it has been slightly longer, but it was only until the postwar economic boom since we really cranked up the CO2 and other natural gases.
Last month I attended a lecture by Sir H. Kroto. In that lecture he mentioned that Wikipedia actually has quite good information on the subject of fullerenes, and he added:"And on some occasions it is actually more correct than some of the textbooks". The context in which this was put, was one that he applauded the concept that wikipedia embodies. Just saying...
Yeah, reminds me of the sketch MPFC made on that subject which demonstrate these kind of 'tech fearing' people: BEDEVERE: What makes you think these Power-lines are bad?? VILLAGER #1: Well, it turned me into a newt. BEDEVERE: A newt? VILLAGER #1: I got better... VILLAGER #2: forbid it anyway!
To stay on-topic... Imagine what will happen if someone gets the hang of the dataformat those things use... two options: 1 - They send the utility company a fake signal (I hardly have any usage at all!) 2 - They send the utility company a fake signal (My neighbours (or any other for that matter) uses a HUGE amount of power... Bill their asses!!!)
I never thought of that... Usually I say that porn will always be at the forefront of the technological frontier. Be it the press, betamax, the internet, DVD, Blueray, interactive DVD etc. Never thought of the good old "writing". Of course that started off as an oral tradition... (pun intended)
Well, internationally I think that it's mostly man that drive. In Saudi Arabia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_suffrage#Saudi_Arabia) women cant drive a car at all, and most other muslim countries I have been it is rare (at least) to see women driving cars. There is an exception to that in former Soviet muslim country's like Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan where Ive seen relatively lots of females driving. In India and China Ive seen some women in the big city's, but not that many. Europe, Australia, NZ, US is about 60/40 I guess, taking into account that most 'professional drivers' (lorry drivers, truck, taxi and so forth) are male. South America... no clue. That is why I guess that males are more driving around than females if you look at the world at large.
I agree, every now and then newspapers write panic-stories on the lack of "general knowledge" of university students. Then one can read: 73% of university students dont know what is celebrated on Easter! Or: 81% of senior high-school students have no idea when the Battle of Waterloo was fought. Thing is, just as you say, that it is trivial for most people (including students). The moment that Theology students dont know what Easter is / history students dont know when the Battle of Waterloo was fought / The radius of the earth is unknown to geology students / the length of the equator is not known by geography students... then there might be something to worry about. And even then that is a mild worry. As long as they can accurately find the information, that is good enough for me. The rest is pub-quizz knowledge.
<quote><p>If you're already on Linux and using ffmpeg, why not encode it as.ogg?</p></quote>
<p> Because it is already an mp3 stream, and re-encoding into another lossy format would make the quality even worse. </p></quote>
Besides the technicalities (on which parent is right), I have an old MP3 player too. It can contain about 1 cd in mp3 format. nothing else. I am happy with it, because it is enough for me.
Unless it uses brute-forcing and is correct on the first guess... Then the energy required is 'considerably less' than all the energy in the galaxy. On the other hand... If it is such a strong encryption, why isn't everybody using it on everything? Why would we continue to use Blowfish / twofish / HSA1 (with salt if it isn't linkedin)/ etc. etc.?
Why banning all guns from a country is the best thing? Now sit down a have a warm tea and I will tell you... (sitting all nice and comfy?)
Right... Long ago, there was a country called Norway, far away in the north of a continent called Yurp. The little kingdom was so unbelievably mild, that no one was allowed to have a gun. Not even the constabulary had a gun on them. They had one in their patrol vehicle, but they where only allowed to shoot if they had permission from the head of the constabularies. Only then! The living there was so mild, even the taste of rainwater was considered "spicy". That is how mindbogglingly mild life was there. Then on a bad day, a big bad man came to an Island where there where a lot of treehugging communists prancing around. Mostly children because it was a merry little summer-camp you see? And he started shooting at the little prancers who fled with sheer despair in their eyes. As the bad man was on his killing spree, there was no one who could stop him, because no one was allowed to have a gun. And they all obeyed the law, no guns allowed! So they had to wait until the constable arrived. The big bad man, lets call him Breivik, kept on shooting while the rest waited for the police to come or to get shot by Breivik. When the constable finally arrived, he saw that he should use gun. So, he called the chief to ask permission. In the mean while Breivik kept shooting. He killed 77 people in total. Now, that is about 7 times as many children as in your soccer-team. That is a LOT huh? After a while the constable got permission, and stopped the bad man. Now, that is why getting... rid... of... all...
Well you get the point I guess? Now of to bed! Look at the time!
Ah, the obligatory remark on something that is mentioned a lot. As long as you dont have some heavily armed marines knocking at your front door FORCING you to read BC/RPi articles, or any article for that matter, I believe you have the freedom to ignore it. I dont disagree with you that some issues get more attention than others, and that that might be unfair, but hey... leave it in peace man!
The one James Watt made. I know he wasn't the inventor, and there was a long history of utilising steam. Internal combustion engines, gas (as a weapon of war), the machine gun, the Tank (as a weapon), Velcro, and rockets weren't 'stand alone' inventions either, but they _were_ game changers nevertheless. I just wanted to make clear that something like this just isn't a game changer, it is a tool at best, probably landfill in a year or so.
And a nice case of course. I'd rather have a RPi, and a phone to do the phoning. I just fail to see that this is a "game changer". The steam engine was a game changer IMHO.
Because there was a cold war going on. Now we have the ISS (guess where I stands for:-) For scientific use, so no politics 'should' be involved. I mean... really... why? The only thing I can think of is something rather ironic:The CPR is doing it because that would make it more competitive, like in a capitalist system.
Does anyone have a clue why they want to do it by them selves? I applaud the DIY mentality there, but it doesn't seem to be the easiest / cheapest thing to do. And on this level "because they can" is just seems ludicrous. Anyone?
What stuff? The stuff you happen to believe in?

quo errat demonstrator
Yes, and another thing: Denmark is the capital of Yurp! So they ARE smart!

I would do the same, but make two, and call it pumpkin Tau!
Oh... wait... what? That's not where you were heading?

Good one. I heard Stops All Projects as well... :-D
Like SAP, sanduhr anschau program (program that makes you watch an hour glass)
Sorry, I kind of missing your point here...

You forgot to add that. FTFY

That is a valid argument, you didn't use my other point though, that it seems to be 'directed or activated' by a human operator.
Because to many people, "Windows is the computer".
Yup, and "google
