The Gamecube sold 4 million units in Japan compared to maybe 450-500k Xbox 1's (couldn't find a number beyond mid-05 of 450k. They stop production around that time of the year so close enough). What's more Nintendo actually made money on each console sold.
Sounds like a success story to me. Not quite so successful compared to the PS2 perhaps, but, as someone else has pointed out too, how many of 110 million PS2's are from users having to buy a multiples because of hardware failure?
It's just the focus is placed on the fanciest graphics. The big publishers are losing out on a lot of income to people that want simple "pick up and play" games they could use to leverage against the exploding budgets of AAAAA++++ titles.
Having worked in the cellular industry (or is it wireless device industry now?), I am willing to take a guess at what you will really "get" for this monthly fee.
You pay 15 dollars a month to gain access to a mobile site with the YouTube logo on it. Verizon will give you streaming access to video clips for upcoming movie releases, music videos (but only the first minute), and commercials for television shows.
Any clip you want to keep (for some asinine reason), will cost and additional 2.50.
I can't find the article but/. ran a story about a company hoping to piggyback off Nintendo's idea with RF based gyromotes for the 360, PS3 and even PC.
They sold 80,000 units in a day! Huzzah! They can only make money as long as they have units to sell. Only over the long term will we be able to say that it was a success.
Of course this will just drum up buzz and people will pay some lucky bastard on eBay 5 times the retail price for one.
"This won't stop you from putting Yellow Dog on the PS3 or running WiiLi, a live Linux CD for the Wii."
<minirant>I will be too busy playing fucking games on it to want to do the above. For all the bitchin on/. about cellphones with cameras, mp3 players and web browsers, why does Linux on everything seem to get accolades?</minirant>
With ~400k available in N.A., what's the point in camping out for a PS3? If you're not one of the first 10 people in-line at EB/Gamestop or most other retail outlets, do you think you'll get one?
As an aside, anyone planning on camping out in the Portland, OR area may want to see if they can borrow someone's house boat. That is, provided the weather we're experiencing now is still around in ~2 weeks. Just pull up to a Best Buy and throw a line around one of the big yellow concrete posts out front.
I don't have time to read the article, but this kind of makes sense. Especially from a nerd point of view. The hotter something is, the more energy it uses. For humans this requires more fuel which means more calories. It stands to reason that we're on borrowed time and just wearing out our parts. Take care of them and you live longer.
I haven't read any of the articles, but the real name is "Core 2 Quad." Core being the new architecture replacing Pentium (even though it's kinda a modified to hell P4 Mobile which was more or less based on a P3). 2 being the second revision of the platform (Core was early '06), Quad for 4 cores (obviously).
This question is useless, it's too bad I don't have mod points. This is the kind of crap we bitch about being posted as a story. It's not going to happen, so why not ask a question that matters?
It's because male testosterone levels have dropped on average. We're too politically correct and soft these days. It's the continued "pussification" (Thanks to George Carlin). The "mans man" is gone.

Couldn't have anything to do with people generating Silver accounts to access regional specific content could it?
Nintendo is expecting a 60% increase in profits for the year...
Meanwhile MS and Sony are trying to keep from digging themselves too big a hole with their video game divisions.
Who is the real "winner."
Sprint (cell provider) just started rolling out XP as their standard platform when I quit last May

If you're sniffing Wii packets and they smell funny, do you take it to the doctor?
Or to put it a little more simply "It's not the fall, it's the sudden stop."
not the slashdot blurb but still what i was looking for clicky

Wait until you see this thing they call 'iPod'. No skipping, easy to transport music, but no wireless - it's so lame

I'm still trying to figure out how the Linux powered cellphone story got hit with a "teabagging" tag. *scratches head*

When you pull that shiny new PC "out of the box", you really are experiencing Windows and IE at their best and most secure.
