I totally agree, I would like to add a few more things to think about to this list.

First, if we were to just throw our hands up in the air and say 'Damn, this costs too much!' every time we try something new we might as well still be living in caves or under rocks. Life is nothing but trial and error until we get it right, and that my friends costs money, time and creative juices. And if we cant make sacrifices then we will never advance.

Second, the statement "When is new technology every not "decades behind" current technology??? current technology is current cuz it was started a decade ago." is very true. Do you think our technology springs from the great mystical fountain of all-knowing located in the back of Grace-Land? No, it's slowly developed over time. Hence back to the hard work and whatnot. Technology is not instant gratification.

Sounds really nice - one way around the whole ops descrimating against evils would be the ability to have people of extreme karma ranges to approach under a 'white-flag-of-truce' where their actions are limited untill the operator or 'lord' shall we say deems them temporary inhabitence. Or a Total Karma vs. Local Karma balances as an additional feature.

Just yet a few more ideas .. think ill write these down and get some a few more programmers other than myself :)

Well a /goal-free universe/ doesn't necesarrily mean no violence - heck a 3d world where you interact with objects as you would in real life with such as the following:

    1) Karma Base for good and evil standings in different areas of the 'universe'.
    2) Cast-like controle structure similar to MUD's but with more achievable god-like positions in your regions.
    3) Item manipulation. Pick a flower and give it to your 'cyber-girlfriend', sit down with friends around a table, etc...
    4) Always on options for ideling, and away... ie. make a roll-out bed in the corner and go to sleep instead of the normal '*** ph0x changes nick to ph0x`z'
As with some of the items mentioned above, you could also have other things granted as special commands. And different regions(channels) controled by what would be the equiv to ops.

Ever wanted to see someone really get kicked from a channel? Watch in wonder as your local region owner grabs the troublemaker by the collar and boots him/her out of a bar.

Just some thoughts for the future.

I applaud Largo for a job well done, however unfortunately not all of us can do that yet. As it stands now too many companies are buried too deep in Microsoft products that it would be a nightmare to make the switch. Case in point, I work in the programming department of a certain government entity. The entire network is based on Microsoft products as well as all of our custom applications we write. To switch this over to a *nix based network running thin-clients would be a tremendous task. Not impossible... but very time consuming and headache ridden.

I would be willing to wager that the majority of large businesses out there are in the same or very similar situation. This is, in my opinion, one of the major obstacles that holds off a linux invasion into the corporate world.

My point is for private group use sure - looks great... for public personal use for the masses... ehhhhh ill stick to my BX - if i want something secure I'll send a pgp encrypted e-mail.

...not very easily, however I live in a southern Florida city (one of the /larger/ ones ... if you can call it that) and they tried the camera thing here and noone seemed to notice it. So they didn't stop there, they installed sound monitoring equipment to really give it that extra _uNF-uNF_.

Now lemme tell ya when people found out about that - everyone.. and I mean /everyone/ got quite peeved. Needless to say we did get the camera and sound equipment off of the buildings due to the fact that, if I remember correctly, it was an 'invasion of privacy' - since at any time you could see into appartment windows, or listen in on private conversations behind closed doors in the case of the audio equipment.

It just goes to prove that individually we cant do squat, as a group however, we can change things.
