There is a significant difference between Steam and constant connection systems like Origin. Steam has a very simple to use Offline Mode that can be enabled easily and may stay enabled for as long as you wish. The only restriction is that you enable it while connected to the Steam service. (So it only works for planned vacations from the internet, unfortunately.) Origin does not. In fact, Origin requires me to connect to an EA website to launch my game to begin with.
Also, with Steam in Offline Mode I believe I can still connect to non-VAC servers while playing multiplayer games. I should try that out later.
Steam does still have the annoying problem of kicking you out of multiplayer if your Steam connection drops and I wouldn't mind them getting rid of that problem.
Right, because every pirated game is a lost sale. Know what I remember? When games had demos. Demos that were playable. Demos that got you invested in the game.
Know what I hate? When I buy a game like BF3 then realize the DRM makes it unplayable on my computer. Sorry, no returns when buying through Origin.
Hey, you shouldn't be calling him an asshole. You may think it's only words but what if it causes him to be so hurt that he commits suicide? Then there'd be blood on your hands for killing him with your insensitivity.
There are 7 billion humans. That means that we have the equivalent of 650 kg of TNT per person. Yes, I think that's enough to eradicate us if we wanted to.
A single enormous explosion in one particular place might not kill everyone. Carpet bombing every inch of land, however, would likely wipe us out to the point where we couldn't repopulate.
Nintendo deals with rampant piracy somehow without trashing downloads of games. The R4 was (possibly still is) easy to find and cheap as hell yet the DS and 3DS are doing fine. Yet somehow, the people I know that own a PSP are the same people that owned a Saturn.
(Note: I am not defending the way Nintendo locks out homebrew on the Wii, just comparing the handheld divisions.)
How about you pay twice your own lawyer's cost. Once to your lawyer, once to the winner's?
If you win against a corporation who put a million dollar dream team together your lawyer just made bank. If you lose then the corporation still doesn't realize the rewards necessary to afford the dream team. I feel like it wouldn't be worse than what we have now and would actually encourage more lawyers to act pro-bono for the poor, at least in cases where they may win.
That's a slightly different argument. With drug screening you're proving that you don't commit crimes on your personal time. Committing crimes on personal time can very much impact work performance if, for example, you get arrested for those crimes. Being a criminal is not a protected class and medical issues are considered private even if they could result in you being unable to work, so the argument doesn't hold for medical screenings for non-physical jobs. With Facebook logins you're giving them a view into private communications instead. That very much is not something corporations should be making these decisions on.
As I posted in a similar story discussion, this will just become an HR screen checkbox requirement that will play out like this: "Please provide your FacePlace login information here." "I don't use FacePlace." "Right. Applicant failed to produce FacePlace login information."
I believe the author means that there is no rational, economic justification. As in, the current prices are not maximizing return and spending money on DRM is not showing any return on investment.
My system's better. I tap a machine of my choosing three times, take my roll of quarters out of my left pocket and put it into the right pocket and then go home!
How to get rich in four easy steps: 1. Start off rich 2. Invest your money wisely 3: ??? 4. Profit
Wealthy investors can invest without regulation (or at least, limited regulations) because the SEC assumes that wealthy people know how to handle their money.
Seriously Wyden. Can we clone him about 15 times? (Don't want a complete monoculture.) I tend to agree with most of his positions and where I don't he has valid reasons to choose a position I don't necessarily back.
Putting it at a higher altitude lets the radio reach farther, presumably. I doubt you'd want to use commercial wi-fi for this since the range would only be on the order of hundreds of feet without a good directional antenna.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, well, I won't be fooled again!

The lead also buffered the valve seating according to Wikipedia. Modern (post-lead) engines have hardened valves to make up for this.
SQUIRREL!
There exist additives to support cars that require leaded fuel. The only support for no-longer-support games is the pirates!

And that is the true shame. It's so much work to flatten skunks the old fashioned way.

Because Facebook won't deny you a job if you deny them your passwords.
Wanted: More sarcastic Amazon reviews of 1984...
I love those patronizing letters.
Me to Senator: "I disagree with X because it hurts Y and Z."
Response: "I agree that X is a necessary and prudent development to prevent Y and Z from occurring. Thank you for your support."
"Insinuated he may be working for a Chinese corporation for industrial espionage."
I imagine "technical questions relating to the job description, requirements and expectations" would be on the list.

That was the original meaning of "decimate". It has since gained another meaning akin to leaving them with one tenth what they started with!

So you're saying it'll be successful? (Remember, laundered money is taxed money.)
