If someone could come up with a peer-to-peer bandwidth hopping scheme, this would actually be pretty cool.

My guess is that the easiest way would be to build in some sort of GPS ability (so you know where you are in relation to your nearest land-node). Your packets hop from wireless node to wireless node until they hit the land-node. Same technique for receiving packets.

  3. Lucas pioneered it? HA! on Digital Movies and The Big Screen · · Score: 1

Everyone knows that anything new in the film industry was pioneered in the porn world first. :)

The reality is, even though Episode II is being filmed all digital, the film industry is going to remain reluctant to switch to all digital formats, primarily because they know that compared to film media, digital media is much easier to copy and distribute, and since they already have a monopoly on the distribution channels, it makes no sense for them to upheave everything and switch. The only reason they will ever switch on a wide scale is if the costs deem it much cheaper (not only for materials, but logistically, labor, etc) for them to mae such a bold move.

I forsee that the changes will come slowly, but rest assured, there will be strings attached, such as proprietary digital formats, equipment, etc. By the time the industry gets its gears in motion to move to any new format, there will inevitably be a newer, shinier one that is hiding in the corner.

I find it really interesting that Windows, which has always prided itself on ease of use and less on stability is finally making its way up the ladder toward actually having a more robust system. On the other hand, we have Linux, which has prided itself on stability first, working its way DOWN the ladder to the lowest common denominator of a user.

Notice the trend? Microsoft starts with crap and cruft and makes it better, Linux starts with a very good OS and dumbs it down.

Now the very cool part is that we are finally starting to see the two (or three if you want to be picky) OSs start to meet each other in a middle ground. Linux is obviously garnering the brighter windows users as time goes by. The tools in Linux continue to become much more user-friendly whereas windows does not really make news tools, merely reinvents them over and over. The fact of the matter is, the momentum behind the desktop wars is now starting to speed up. My guess is that by the time KDE hits 4.0 there will be little to discern Linux from Windows when it comes to desktop appearances alone.

I guess I have a point, if you read it again you may be able to figure it out as well :)

    Cheers

Paris, France (SatireWire.com) -- To comply with French law and keep French Web surfers from attempting to view Nazi memorabilia on its auction site, Yahoo today said it will move Nazi artifacts from their current category -- Antiques > Militaria > WWII -- to a listing under Home > Food > Fine British Wines.

The announcement came only hours after a French court ruled the Santa Clara, Cal.-based company was in violation of France's anti-racism laws, which it make it illegal to sell or display anything that incites racism. French culture minister Catherine Tasca accepted Yahoo's proposal, noting that "No self-respecting French person would dignify such a category by clicking on it." However, she added, identifying British wines as "fine" was "unnecessarily vulgar."
