  1. Doesn't Work on Zaurus Sync Software (Finally) Available for Linux · · Score: 1

I downloaded this thing, and it's crap. In fact the older version (which is no longer there) works better than this one (if you can tackle dynamic libs). The zaurus in general has been the biggest waste of money for me... it doesn't work with Linux... period without patching the kernel, and even then you have to bi**ch slap this qtopia desktop which isn't "officially" supported under Linux. More BS... One would guess that linux would be the first OS supported...

  3. Sending court orders to everyone... on Gnutella Copyright Enforcement? · · Score: 1

Let me see if I understand this correctly, the only reason why this software works for napster is because you HAVE a central server to send this LIST to, so that they could deny users. With GNUTELLA you need to send a court order to EVERY ISP/IP address that this software types up. Which invalidates the point of the software.

You obviously have not read any Marx, Durkheim, Burke, Hobbes, especially Weber (and the postmodernist Ritzer)... i have done extensive research into the major Social Theorists (cosidering Philosophy and Sociology are my fields of interest.) What you are promoting is a self defeating system.

It cannot, well i dont want to be a positivist, may not, survive for long. For you must understand that in order for there to be corporations, there would have to be people with the ability to consume! The system that you promote, ruthless capitalism, will exploit everyone until there is no one left. When there is no one left, even the companies will fall. You have to find a happy medium, Golden Mean as (IIRC) Plato put it.

There is a possibility for another revolution, i will not be in the US to witness it. The incidents which occured over the world trade org, and international monetary fund are just beginning.

Microsoft (especially if it gets broken up) will move into this market and take it over in a heartbeat.

I was going through a Linux hardware/software catalogue yesterday, and saw all this nice software available for a price equivalent to other platforms. It's really interesting to see all these companies attempt to take over a market like this.

It's still useless. I write up something in WP8 or StarOffice, and i still cant give this document to my friends, or paper to the prof. I have to convert it to MS-Word for them to read it. And we all know how well the third party software writes to Ms-Word format...you'll have better luck with ASCII Art.

  12. IP Based Tracking = !(Anonymous) on Anonymous Web Hosting Banned In France · · Score: 1

Well technically it's not anonymous if the web server keeps logs of the people who upload material. What i mean is that IP's (for the most part- esp when it comes to free websites) are pretty much factually identifying the person who is posting material. So in effect, by the pure fact that the server is keeping logs of the person's IP uploading data, it's not anonymous.

if there is a proxy server between the end user and the free webhosting service, no problem. The web hosting service can pass the buck to the next level. They can say (if there was illegal material posted) well, the ip address we have is of proxy.foo.bar. And it's up to the french government to follow the link to the next level. After just two or three of these, i am sure the french gov't will realise that it's too much work to keep track of it.

It can also be done at the account creation level. For example, if someone signs up for an account, they can leave an email address, and a name, etc... then when they are complete with the account creation process, the server stamps the account with a creation IP. Next time they login, they again stamp an ip with it... =) Either way, the webhosting service only has to give the govt the ip, and the govt follows it up with the isp, or university or whatever.

  13. Re:More conspiracy websites... on Microsoft Funded by NSA, Helps Spy on Win Users? · · Score: 1

I have long ago resolved that humans are evil. This is because they are greedy. Then you must ask why they are greedy... because they are animals. The current socio-economic system in place here in America is a self-destructive system. It's bound to fail due to the polar extremities of the socio-economic class structure. This is directly to blame for the type of Inhuman corporations that we have today (very McDonaldized.)

The Irony in all of this seems to be that despite the companies' insistence that more Calculability, Predictability, Control will yield greater efficiency this is not the case. Here is where the irrationality of rationality comes forth and its stench reigns.

Over rationalization works only to dehumanize society, for personal profit of the corporate class (the Capitalists.) It is intended to keep the humans around long enough only to strip them of the ability to create, to practice skills and offer judgement. Ultimately, it replaces humans with technology.

Isn't this the identical case with the microsoft visual c libraries... or the vb libraries. I see a lot of people out there that say here's my program... and here's the version with the correct MSVC42.DLL or MSVC40.DLL or whatever it's called... and guess what? the DLL adds another two megs to the download.

I think what everyone is saying here is valid across ALL platforms and toolkits. Except that it happens more often in some than in others. Gtk have gotten their act together since Version 1.2. I remember the older versions of GTK where an application would be able to compile with one and not the other.

As a programmer i like to look at two things when coding. 1) documentation and 2) the API. As an object oriented programmer, i like to see things that are natively predictable. Yes folks, this means coding with C++ over C. *duck* *hide* ehhe.

When i was a wee GUI-weenie... i looked at ALL of the toolkits out there. I putzed around with LessTif, GTK, Qt, FLTK, Motif, even borland c++ builder. Based on the easy to read documentation and API's native predictability, i decided to go with Qt.

I dont know, maybe it's just me, but i find it easier to remember that QPushButton *myButton = new QPushButton(); myButton->setText("OK"); than to remember gtk_create_button(with 200000 mandatory arguments); and special gchar, and gint and gthis and gthat.... *shudder* i am going into shock again. Also, something that made it easy to learn was easy to read documentation. GTK had none of it that was easy to follow.

I dont know, I am going to take a look at GTK++ or whatever the C++ version of GTK is to see if it's any different... But i'll tell you right now... the deciding factor is going to be the documentation.
