China has only just been growing for a few years now. For the people to really feel the effects it takes more years after the growth happens. In fact Their people are in better shape, a lot better, in 20 years. Poverty was at around 84% in the mid 80's. In 2005 it was 16%. Chinas middle class has also been rising. While they might not be at the levels of the western world yet, they are getting big and better with much investment by their own countries infrastructure is only going to help them more.

Reminds me of the channel line up a few years ago. Suddenly all the popular channels (cartoon channel, Comedy Network, the movie channels, ect...) were made part of the more expensive tier ($10 a month more to re-gain the same channels). When I called to question why it was happening, I was told that those were being moved to a higher tier to save me money since nobody watched those channels except for a small part of the population and by doing this they could offer me better channels for the same price (channels no one watched). Canceled Shaw the same day. I guess this is their next answer since no doubt more people people canceled their Shaw accounts (many people had canceled when they shifted the channels, they said that it had been a PR nightmare. Why they also started to spam their commercials of "We don't make you sign a contract" ones. Too bad 6 months of Shaws non-contract was the same price as a years worth of Telus contract and Telus had a better channel selection). Shaw is killing itself with greed and they want to kill any alternative.

How much does this have to do with things like Netflix now being in Canada? Not to mention other things like slowly more and more games being sold digitally for the XBox360, PS3, PC/Mac (Steam, Mac App Store), iTunes movies, ect.. These are all using more and more data and I think they are wanting to capitalise on the digital download bandwagon. They watched Rogers do this and hey, it didn't hurt Rogers so the others are just following suit thinking "If they can do it and make more money for nothing, why not us?" And what is the caps? Anyone can say that only a small percent of users hit these caps, but that could also be based on just a rough estimate of "users typically do basic web surfing and check email, meaning they should only need 5-10 gigs max a month". Helps make gov look the other way by making baseless claims like that.

Too bad, it does not come with 3G. That is a deal breaker for me.

I think of it not coming with 3g as a positive. I don't want to spend $30 a month to have access to very slow wireless, and the hardware to do 3g is typically an extra $100-$150 I would prefer to spare. If I need the internet that badly I'd tether it to my smartphone and not have to spend more money to use what I already have access to.

Haptics allows for touch feedback, but doesn't allow you to feel the keys under your fingertips. It doesn't cause them to rise above the rest of the screen. For haptics to work, you need to press the button. I'm talking about things like aligning your fingers to things like the 'home row' on the keyboard. You shouldn't have to look at the keyboard every few minutes to make sure your fingers are in the home row, you should just be able to feel that they are (like I mentioned about the little notch on your F and J key).

Good luck to any parent who tries to use a touchscreen shared by their kids.

Was thinking that myself. Toddlers and young children are well know to want to bang on things. Imagine a child banging the mouse on the touchscreen. Shattered glass, while it is most likely to stay in the frame and not hurt the child, it's still a very broken keyboard then.

  14. Doubt it. on Will Touch Screens Kill the Keyboard? · · Score: 1

Part of the thing about a real keyboard is the feel of the keys. Not the feedback but the raised buttons themselves. Without them many people are left to hunt-n-peck typing since they can't feel the keys brush their fingertips (also think of the little notch on your F and J keys, used for the same thing). Remove the ability to feel the keys without looking and many people won't touch it and businesses won't use it because I gather WPM typing will go down and error typing will go up.

Not every native or black person was a slave, some were free either normally or managed to purchase their freedom but with this you've completely changed it to make it look like you were either white or you were a slave. That will be great to teach little Timmy "Remember, these people weren't repressed minorities back then, people were either white or slaves. And its not uncommon of DRM causing lag (the DRM does use up some resources to run on top of the game), in fact the game Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind had many sources (including at least one magazine) suggesting to use a no-cd crack to speed it up (gave you on average 5fps). Their friend was concerned that AC2 would have even more DRM (the internet connection plus other possible DRM) which could slow down their computer even more and thats why they didn't buy it.

One word: ACTA. The only people that have been allowed input is some world governments (the US and EU being the most vocal/demanding of the 2), and then the International Intellectual Property Alliance (which includes the Business Software Alliance (BSA), Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA or MPA), and Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The ACTA has been losing tracks and power since it went public and places like WikiLeaks really help shine the light on this. Needless to say groups like the MPAA aren't happy about this and will want to abuse any and all ACTA powers to make sure that when they try to shove ACTA 2 down peoples throats they won't have as much problems from sites like WikiLeaks
