Wow, now that I didn't know. This is the exact same format as DVD. I wonder why they haven't started using H.264 yet? Maybe a processing capability issue? In certain ways I would rather see BluRay win, simply because they are using standardised video format (except the VC-1). VC-1 is Microsoft owned and not much in the way of a published standard.

You forget the /. favourite: more DRM, oh and they both still have region encoding.

Truth be told if it wasn't for the region encoding, I wouldn't have a good reason to using solutions that get round the DRM.

Actually, there is a good reason why 'and' and 'but' aren't considered well placed at the start of a sentence: they are joining words. If you place them at the beginning of the sentence you are no longer joining. Examples:

    1. ok: I have a car. I have a bicycle.
    2. ok: I have a car and a bicycle.
    3. not ok: I have a car. And I have a bicycle.
    4. not ok: And I have a car.

    5. ok: I have a car. I can't drive.
    6. ok: I have a car, but I can't drive.
    7. not ok: I have a car. But I can't drive.
    8. not ok: But I can't drive.

The problem with items 3 and 7 is that you would have been better off droping the full-stop (period). In items 4 and 8 there is no idea to join.

        - tamper alarm
        - have the whole unit under a pane of plastic, to prevent voter tamper. The other two solutions are organiser tamper oriented.

Insurance takes the risk of one individual and spreads it across an entire population.

Well that is the general approach and should be seen more of a community bank, where the idea is less people will withdraw large sums, than people putting in small sums. Its also why there is so much small print. If a situation happens which affects more than a fair percentage, and it isn't accounted for in the contract, then they get hurt, so they compensate by increasing the insurance fee (either indivually or globaly) and add a clause if it is likely to happen too often.

For example, if they covered flood damage and discovered that a small percentage of people kept on claiming on yearly damage then they either put up the fee for this group or stop covering them. They are in the business of risk management, which is not the same thing as being in the business of being totally stupid.

Actually this is a really important. You don't want to be finding yourself a power socket to charge your PDA every two and half hours. Gray scale screens are usually very high quality in commparison to colour screens, with the omission of colour.

The entire revue is probably biased, but the general gist is that if you think of how your device will be used you will be better off. Trying to fudge a solution may provide a working solution, but not necessarily one which is worth using. The fact that the Newton is still being using by people today is a testiment to how well it was thought out - what was against it were: size, price and the fact it was too early to market for most.

The Mac should be able to find printers shared with SMB. Otherwise take a look at sharing the printer as LPR on your PC, and then using the "Printer Setup Utility" to access it.

This why cameras on computer should be equipped with manual sliders to cover them. The idea being you can be confident that it is not seeing anything.
