We all know that this varies from provider to provider as well as location. I can tell you that between 5pm and 10pm my cable modem would _not_ work at ALL. So, technically, yes. At those times my 56k modem was faster than my cable connection.
True most "Enterprise" applications are already running on a supcribtion basis. However, I wouldn't want my OS to be on a subscription basis. An OS is a basic fundamental part of a working system. I don't have a subscription for my Disk Drives or my NIC.
There may be some truth to that, but you are not going to get your choice of 5 ISPs. The will be one dominate ISP per region and about 5 regions. Cable companies swap service areas so they don't have to compete now. I'm sure the "5 big ISPs" will do the same.
Right now (for high speed access) I have a choice between DSL and Cable... well since there isn't a single DSL ISP they will return my calls (beside the evil Ameritech) I guess I'm going to have to go back to a Cable modem. Oh well I'm just the consumer.
I've lived in Metro Detroit all my life and I've only experianced a few weeks of outage the entire time all together. It's DPL power (with is not run by DTE) that has constant outage. What a surprise, DPL is run by the City of Detroit.
I know it says that you can get Ethernet via USB but I think maybe they should make a model with on-board 10/100BaseTX or possibly a PCMCIA slot. Just a suggestion. This might be able to be good network troubleshooting tool. A Semi-mobile linux system might also work as a good security scanner too.
Most companies have what they call vanity phone numbers (1-800-444-4000). In other words very simple numbers that are easy to remember. ARIN distributes only blocks of IPs to the ISPs. In which case businesses only vanity IP phone #s would be limited to their ISP.
Good... It should go straight to the Supreme Court anyways. Bill will just keep apealing until it was up to the Supreme Court. Judge Jackson is just trying to shave off 5+ years of court cost to the public, most of which don't even care if M$ is a monopoly or not. It also reduces that time M$ has to lobby congress to get the case throw out of court completely (which congress has the power to do). Bill is tring to tell our Non-savy politicans that if the DOJ breaks up M$, it would be the end of IT inovation since THEY seem to think that they are the only company to produce *good* software. It's only a matter of time b4 our politicians step in and stop the trial because they are ignorent.
I was never too concerned about Cell phones causing cancer until work gave me a Nextel L series phone (on of the 1st ones). When I use it, every Monitor and Audio speaker flicker and produce static within a 5 ft. radius. Call me crazy, but I'm not to thrilled that these signals disrupting my monitors are passing thourgh my head:)
I have nothing against Monopolies... as long as they make a good product:) Everyone hates Microsoft because they are a Monopoly and thier product sucks. The reason why most people don't care about an AT&T monopoly is because they have a good product.
Well that blows away my ITU G.114 delay budget of 150ms. No VoIP for Mars :)

This was due to DPL not DTE. DPL supplies power to all city owend property and city offices.

You can't expect every piece of hardware a company makes has to work with ALL OSs. They got to make money to stay in business.

The problem isn't the NLM, its the programming community. It's easier to program a Win32 application than to take the time to learn NetWare API.

If you buy them in a 10-pack, they are roughly $2.00 each.

Not likely since Canada and the US are part of the NAFTA :)
