Yes, I think you want the news "filtered". A good analogy of this would be:
Do you want your water filtered before it arrives at your house?
Of course you do, they take all the crap out of it and make it safe to drink. This is exactly what Katz is saying. By filtering the news, he means for them to take out all the lies and misconceptions before the news is delivered to the people. I know I would sure like for that to happen.
Hey, it's very popular, and is illegal. Why don't we confront this like some countries confront drugs. Make them legal and tax the hell out of them.
The government should tax the people that are "using" code red to "access" whitehouse.gov. We all know that, like the lottery is a tax on people bad at math, this will be a tax on stupid admins.
Capitalism sucks when the people with the power aren't the ones with the money.
That is probably the single best line I've heard in a long time. Capitalism has progressed from small businesses that cater to their customers' needs to large businesses that make the customers believe they're being catered to.
I was under the assumption that any graphics chip renders in real time. It's just that the newer chips can do it a whole lot faster, and with better detail.
If all a chip does is determine where the objects are(what object is in front of what), and apply the textures and from there, create the frame, isn't that rendering in real time?
I just dream of a time where the graphics chips can display the rendered frames in realtime, and they look real. Real-looking people/textures/whatever.
When I can look into a monitor(or whatever) and see an object, I want it to look real. That's what I'm waiting for. Till then, I'll keep dreaming(and spending massive amounts of money that I don't have on the latest and greatest computer gizmos).
The sight I've found that uses many mediums for their content is Heavy
It uses sight(Flash), sound(music), and video to show it's audience it's content. There is no url(besides www.heavy.com) since it's all flash. But the section is called HIPNODX, and it catches the real life of "break dancers"(for lack of a better word in my head). It's very cool.
I currently have a business class SDSL line in my house. It's 1Mbps up/down, and only runs me about 150/month with line taxes and everything. They even had me setup in two weeks from the time I put in my call.
I thought that companies bought the domains...

For some reason, I remember that large corporations were buying all the domains that could be against them, and just point them to their own website anyways.
In this case it seems that Ford hadn't thought of everything yet.
Wow, thanks man. Someone actually read my whole post. I may not explain myself exactly how I meant to, but people should really start reading the full post/article/whatever before rushing to judgement.
I can better see how they might blame the MPAA and RIAA. Movies are far more graphic(it looks a lot more real), and there are an infinite amount of songs that preach violence.
But I still wouldn't blame the MPAA, RIAA, and much less, a gaming company.
I want money just as much as the next guy, but I will settle for doing it the "right" way.
A government professor I had last semester let me know of a nice trick.
Write an article, and have it be an advertisement, but word it like an article of this wonderful company that's doing great things.
Send this article to newspapers and magazines around the country, there's about 4000 of them.
You'd be amazed how many newspapers/magazines will print this, if you do this well enough. I know it's sleazy, but it works.
I think of it like spam...most people will disregard it, but some people will fall prey to a well written piece.:)
Tips when looking for a DSL provider(from someone already hurt this northpoint thing about 2 months ago):
-Go with a national carrier.
-Go with someone that provides everything...most DSL providers provide a link between someone like Northpoint(the line and dsl equipment that makes the dsl signal go to you), and UUNet(or the like). Otherwise your ISP doesn't own the line, some company they contracted with does(this is what screwed my company).
There's only a few companies that provide nationwide service and own the lines and the equipment also. Most are telco companies.
I'm happily with MPower Communications. They got us up in 2 weeks, and it's very cheap. 150/month for a 1Mbit SDSL line, and a static IP. They even do voice over ip, which is very cool, and cheap also.
Look, I don't want to burst your bubble or anything, but this site is mainly comprised of activists in one way or another. You can see that by what stories/comments are posted.
As on any activist site(this one is far from the most active), strong ideas about really bad things are discussed. Sometimes the activist group wins, and sometimes they don't. We here have such a broad view of ideas, and areas of interest that we will never run out of things to discuss. When/If the DMCA thing has ended, we'll be taking up things like the UTICA, and others.
This isn't meant to discourge you or anyone else. I'm just saying that you shouldn't get depressed about this sort of thing, yes it's bad, but why don't you do something that will really help out our civilization like feeding the hungry, and educating people that have been on the short end of the stick more than any of us.
Sure there will be joyful exclamations when the DMCA falls, but the next day we will have forgot about it because we'll already be waging war with something we believe is far worse.
There's a series of bills in both the House and Senate that relate to this. I would suggest reading(or atleast glancing through them to see what each one is about.
When you contact your Represtentative and Senator, write a nice little letter that expresses your opinion. Also include some general info(like good websites) that explain why the UTICA is bad.
Finally, if your in the Austin area please drop this by your rep's Capitol office. If not, fax it to their Capitol office. DO NOT send this to their district office in your area. They are currently in session, and will not be there.
P.S. If you really want to get in good, take them to a nice long lunch/dinner and express your views then. But atleast to something.

Yeah, well, I'm just surprised at how familar this sounds to ...

Judge Dredd
Maybe a stretch, but oh well
...The old defective pentiums.
You have to remember that while lobbyists had to take math in college, they probably only took statistics or something dumb like that.
Lobbyists are no good at calculus, and therefore would not be able to compute numbers like a Beowulf Cluster is designed for.
Has just been slashdotted

Sure!
Heh, it's cool

Please read the "whole" comment.

also the life of a security administrator... :)
wouldn't be able to keep up with writing bloated code....unless they come up with a quantum computer to write the code for them....

I hate to repeat the obvious, but the reason that the media reported the losses the way they did is because of who owns them.
ABC is owned by Disney(who owns many record companies) for example.
Any major record label these days is owned by a company that owns atleast one(upto 50) tv/radio stations, not to mention newspapers.
The point is is that almost all media is biased. Period.
P.S. I've bought about 30 CDs in the last 6 months. All of them from Half.com.
