    ALIEN APOCALYPSE: Another Bruce Campbell action fest, this time with Campbell playing a deep space explorer who returns to Earth years after leaving it, only to find the planet has been invaded by an alien race and mankind reduced to slaves. Campbell and his fellow astronauts try and mobilize a rebellion.

    Aliens, an invasion and Bruce Campbell? They might aswell rename this 'Duke Nukem: The Movie'. Should be cool. (Tho knowing Sci-Fi ...)

    Support both! Both shows are getting a new lease of life, both shows are really really good and a million times better than anything else on TV at the moment.

    Same goes for the IRA; they are illegal since 1936

    The IRA will be destroyed not by bombs or guns, but by words. N.Ireland is a vasty safer place today because people who hate eachother sit at tables and try to work things out. They rarly do work things out, but they keep trying. It's helped largly by the British and Irish governments who keep nudging them towards the table.

    It saddens me greatly to then see the British government jump at the chance to bomb a country because another foreign country is attacked. They of all people should know better.

    Please don't lump all Americans into one basket, I'd call that racist, but it's not an issue of race but of country.

    Then the American government and media is encouraging racism. I realise that there are many people over in the US who don't fall for it, but they seem to be in the minority.

    Unfortunately this may be true. Someone on UK TV was talking about it earlier in the week and said the title was "The Creeping ... something". He couldn't remember the rest. This wasn't a live show and was probably filmed last week. So this ain't an Aprils Fools joke.

    I once worked in a company that relied heavily on Visual Basic. Almost everything was written in it, and anything new was required to be writtin in it. That's not so bad, I can tolerate Visual Basic in exchange for money.

    One day I was asked to write a program that converted a vector image into VB code. A Visual Basic program that writes a Visual Basic program.

    That's just .. well, wrong.

    Tho compiled for i386, most distros are optimised for i686. The exceptions being the kernel as you mentioned, openssl and glibc.

    For most userland utilites, there is simply no need for any more.

    It's the last season. Mr.Psycho and Growler where the new house robots.

    Mr.Psycho probably shouldn't have happened, but it's nothing compared to the really pointless Cassius Chrome (sp?) they added this season.

    Wow, that's pritty messed up. What about the interviews in the pits or just after the fights? I'd imagine they's have to keep or drop them completly. There wouldn't be much of a show left!

    Maybe they'll stop showing Robot Wars and put some decent shows on instead

    I dunno what Robot Wars your watching, but the UK one is a really good show. The only thing spoiling it now are the adverts! (It changed channels here, never used to have adverts before.)

    SECAM (the french standard) is even better because it uses FM modulation for colour, so it eliminates both these problems

    SECAMs colour resolution is horrible. And it's isn't very tolerant to ghosting. For a PAL signal, ghosting will cause faint grey ghosts - in SECAM the ghosts will really mess up the colour.

    It is however better at handling weaker signals, PAL will loose it's red colours where SECAM looks fine.

    NTSC, PAL, and SECAM

    Even in countries that use SECAM all production is done using PAL (or in more modern studios MPEG). The signal is converted to SECAM prior to transmission. SECAM is worse than NTSC, and was largly created for political reasons more than technical reasons.

    Unfornatually, HDTV will suffer these same political problems aswell. Framerates and resolutions will most likely be different, or they'll use some other method to encode/transmit the data.

    Who knows, perhaps I'll be wrong .. here's hoping!

    Now all I need is XMMS to leave the GTK+-1 dark ages and maybe I can finally get rid of the old libraries.

    Good as they are, they just look so out of place on a modern desktop.

    One thing I've always wondered, since ice can exist on Mars and there is water vapour in the air, enough to make clouds and frost, can it snow on Mars?
