What could be Apple's motivation for this? Are they worried that people are going to start selling Macs with linux on them and claiming that it's MacOS? That's the only thing that I can think of. I guess they know the horrible truth that most Mac users are so shallow that they only buy Macs because of look of the desktop?
I've noticed a new trend in free software, it appears that there's a concentration on porting all new software to every possible platform before said software is anywhere near completetion. Don't get my wrong, plex86 is _very_ cool. But shouldn't they work on irony out all of the bugs on one OS before porting it to others?
Actually no. With something like XML I cannot see how there ever will be standards. It's a markup language based entirely on user-defined tags, which makes that you can never have standards. Furthermore, these standards will probably defeat the purpose of it to begin with.
Think about it: Extensible Markup Language. By definition there are no standards for it.
When do you think that the x86 architecture will get rid of the BIOS in favor of a full hardware bootloader like most other platforms (Sun, AXP, SGI, IBM, Mac....)? It would be nice to be able to load any OS at boot time without using any additional software.
most fugu that you get in Japan is farm raised and is not poisonous. It is also heavily government regulated, so there is absolutely no risk. This also has an affect on the flavor, the nonpoisonous fugu is bland and rather ordinary tasting. However, it is still possible to find the poisonous variety, though it can cost upwards of 1000USD for a plate.
I haven't played with it yet, but I heard that the newest Solaris revision supports live patching of the kernel. That's very cool. Imagine never having to reboot for a software related thing again? Hell, on some of the E class Sun boxen, you can hot swap memory, CPUs, and other I/O devices. About time someone started working on technology like that for the PC (granted it's a different market and less demand).
Speaking of which, it would also be nice to have an x86 hardware bootloader instead of the outdated BIOS. Being able to load an OS or boot from a differnt device via a commandline would be a great feature for the home PC.
I still don't see these "ethical ramifications". How is this any different than giving cows drugs to make more milk? Or giving chickens drugs to give them more meat on their bones? It's the same exact thing.
I don't see why cloning is such a big issue, the benefits definitely outweigh the consequences. Furthermore, I don't even see any consequences. The only argument against cloning is that "humans will live unnaturally longer".
1) Is this a bad thing?
2) According to this argument, we should outlaw medecine and nutrition.
I think this would work the same as it currently does for patented findings ay universities. When a discovery is made by university faculty, the university holds all of the patent rights to it. Research is almost always released publicly, even if it's not patented. The problem arises when you have new biotech companies that are making almost all of their money off of this university funded research, and sometimes patenting it if it wasn't patented already.
Damn straight, fuck the environment! What has it done for us lately?
Well technically it's not

Is UNIX An OS?

I guess you can argue that UNIX is just a common environment and a set of tools, whereas the kernel is the actual OS. Though I guess you can argue that it's the kernel and this environment together that make up an OS.....
I wonder if anyone has brought up the issue of expanding funding for the space program in the elections. With all these talks of surplus, it might be rather nice to use it on space exploration.....
Usability is a relative and opinionated term. If Linux were being shipped on every new computer, it would be what the vast majority of people would use, and Windows would seem quite difficult to most.
Will this really change anything? In the year 2050 when the appeals finally end and Microsoft is finally broken up, do you really think that this is going to stop people from using their products? The average consumer doesn't care. They'll use whatever is on their computer when it's shipped to them. Like it or not, Windows is currently the standard only because of name recognition and because their OS ships on the majority of new computers. The only way of changing this would be for them to completely stop creating the product. The average consumer doesn't care, and that's why there's little that we can do but drive them out of business (yeah right).

Google has already started selling ads a few months ago. Though the cool part is that anyone can buy them online.

That is sooo cool! Seriously. I mean, of all the ways to go, isn't getting hit with an Iridium satellite at the top of you list?

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw that :)
No matter how many times I've seen it, Blade Runner is still 'new' and amazing.
This is nothing new, they were called CORES, and they've been around since the '70s!!!
This is like MS claiming to have invented a new technology when they came out with their "optical mouse".
I say it's time we went off and started our own damn internet!
ergh, wait, I guess that's what some people apparently tried to do....

No monopoly, is good monopoly!

Note to the ignorant: Jupiter is made up of heavy gases with a dense rock core at the center.
So how long before we start hurling robots to land on it? Then how many millions go down the toilet before we actually land something successfully?
Won't Apple look even more stupid once this patent gets thrown out. This really hasn't been a good year for them...

No matter what you do, you're always going to have stupid immature people trying to ruin it for everyone else. I say give it up while you're ahead.
No. It wasn't.
