Couldn't you people have had the decency to wait to post this _after_ the debate has finished? There are a bunch of us watching it, who would rather like to continure watching it....
The reason why people have been using Windows for so long is because it's on the computer already and it's what everyone else uses. And it's what everyone else uses soleley because it's on the majority of consumer computer systems. If windows becomes so expensive that the system vendors have to charge $1000 for it, I'm sure they'll start looking into other options (i.e. linux). This might be how linux starts to dominate the desktop market.
That's exactly the point I'm trying to make. You should be teaching your children the basic differences between right and wrong rather than sheltering them from all "bad" things, so that when you're not there to flip the channel they'll be able to make good choices on their own. That's the difference between good and bad parenting.
Well that's one thing I really don't understand. The company depends on the technical people a lot more than they depend on the managers; the company has a small chance of functioning without the management, but no chance without the techs (in IT, that is). So why is it that management always makes so much more and gets so many more perks?
When are people going to realize that making laws isn't going to make up for poor parenting? That's what it all boils down to with the whole censorship saga. It's all about personal responsibility.
It's about time that the patent office hires a group of geeks to consult with whenever there's a pending technology patent. If we're going to have people running the patent office who know nothing about existing technology, this problem is only going to get worse.
That's pretty cool, rarely do you see an actual interview on these gaming sites with the makers of the hardware. It's been a while since ATI has made a good gaming card, I was under the impression that they were targeting the business market now.
So when's this thing going to be available? And how in their right mind is going to throw down $400 for the 64mb version? Hell, quake3 still looks fine on my voodoo2, I don't need 200,000fps to play a game....
The bandwidth with 802.11 isn't the issue, the point is, you _can't_ have more then like 20 people connect to an airport, it's just not possible (regardless of the bandwidth everyone is using).
Are they ever going to merge some of the features between BIND 4 and 8 (does this?)? I mean, doing DNS from a MySQL database is very cool, I had just always hoped that they would put that feature in 8 eventually..
The range for 802.11 is about 200 ft, maximum. And not only would it be expensive to put a tower every 200 feet, they'd then need it to do VoIP (and I'm not sure how much bandwidth this would use). Then you have to figure the number of people using each tower. I know at LWCE they had about 50 people all pushing the Apple Airport, which was way too many. You'd need a tower for about every 2 dozen people tops, with less than 200 feet between towers. It's not worth it to use 802.11, as you can clearly see.
Well the most economical way of doing it (for the airline anyway) would be to have a single digital pipe that everyone shares. 64k would probably be the minimum necessary to feed the entire plane (just for email of course, 300 people surfing the web wouldn't survive on a 64k pipe, but then again probably less than 10% would be using it).
Currently it costs like $2/minute and $5 for the first minute on the in flight phones, and that's at pretty crappy quality, it can barely sustain a 14.4 modem over it. What's the price going to be for a full 64k (atleast 64k) digital link? This is probably only going to target business travellers who are on expense accounts, not your average recreational geek who pays out of his pocket for this sort of thing.
Although it is now "illegal" to post the code or link to it, would it be illegal to write a song and link it? I mean, that really isn't the straight source code, first you'd need a lot of time and effort to write it all done so you could compile it, and secondly it's a song *about* the source. I mean, it's not illegal to sing about murder and other crimes? How is it illegal to sing about the way that you'd decrypt a DVD?
Great, so this means not only will they be claiming that Microsoft was the first one to come up with IPv6, but this must mean that they're also going to make it incompatible with everything else out there. Glad I no longer use windows.
Does this surprise anyone? Of course they're going to claim that "4.7 million items are accidently mispriced." They're not going to say, "that's right, we've been fucking with you all along, muahahha! And that extra money that we make on some of you, goes straight to our friends in the patent office. Muahahaha"
hmm. I guess the Marketing/Legal department at MS really does have its limits...
I'm *shocked*

Umm, I'm saying "if and only if windows becomes $1000 for a license," then the rest would probably come true.

Instead I think we should require mandatory IQ testing in order to use a computer. Oh hell, we should have mandatory IQ testing to remain alive.
it's the thickness.

Great, now all we need are pocket fusion-generators and a better display technology and every datacenter can have its own universe!

Now people are just going to have to follow standards (which hasn't been happening).
They did all of this rightfully. Completely understandable to me.

Does this mean that Yahoo completely ignores the robots.txt file? This certainly can't be a Good Thing(TM), can it?

Ummm, Napster works fine for me......
This is the internet. *EVERYTHING* is a buzzword. Nothing is real until it actually happens.
