I see emulation software being most helpful for individuals who want to use a certain platform that their companies proprietary software doesnt support and in the case of linux this group probably already dual boots into linux anyway. of course this doesnt mean i wont try it out once 1.0 is released.

Our first programing assignment for my cs class was get your computer's compiler and such working. for windows this took two pages to explain for os x (and my trusty 400Mhz iMac) it was simple 'use gcc'

Intel's 128 MB player - $299. about the same dimensions as the ipod... so that's why theyre scrapping it....

samsung 64MB player-$199 slightly smaller, tiny lcd
i2Go eGo MP3 Player- 399 from buy.com (499 retail) this thing has 340 MB flash memory and is slightly smaller than the ipod. with no lcd.

All that info was off buy.com as of 3pm today(they had some $100 players with 32MB or less that i didnt look at) you can check yourself if you want as.

The point is that this is a very good and competitively priced mp3 player even without the large screen easy to navigate menus, firewire connection/recharging and portable hard drive function. Its not revolutionary or all that special and the only complain that i could have about it is that it was so over hyped by apple. (I was really holding out for the apple teleportation device)

Airplane hijackings arent the only place where this would be useful, identity fraud and underage drinking is another area (not that i think that setting the drinking age at 21 isnt counter productive and doesnt encourage bing drinking and unsafe behavior. but thats another argument entierly.) 20. Re:They're just students, after all... on Tips for Teaching Seniors About the Internet? · · Score: 2
That's a nice idealistic way to look at it. but to say that someone is just a student misleading.

students are broken down into groups all the time and different teaching approaches are used for each group. for example, acelerated or honor's classes try to isolate a group of students who are supposedly brighter than their peers. the teered college system that our country has is another way of classifying students. Grade levels based on past experience is another.

Furthermore its hard to argue that age doesnt play a roll in the ability to grasp new concepts and learn new facts. try teaching a four year old and a 35 year old a new language, chances are the four year old will be fluent long before the older student. repeat teh experiment with a 35 year old and a 70 year old and youll get the same results.

the only point to saying that a group of people are just students when they could much more accuratly be described by seniors is to be Politicaly Correct. and this is still slashdot right??

if you give them a list of bookmarks ranging from encyclopedia's to trivia sites itll be easier for them to digest the information than if you give them a search engine and show them how to get whatever they want.
