If I have to upgrade to Windows 8 (which I don't plan on doing), then I'll just wait until there's a suitable version of the Combined Community Codec Pack for Win8. Really, paying for media playback is just lame.
From what I gather from the summary, the amount of caffeine required to have the same effect as exercising would give you no choice but to get up and move. I mean, have you ever successfully remained calm after downing a whole pot of coffee?
I would take a look at Tversity. I've used it for going on 5 years and haven't had any problems streaming to any device (except for iOS devices when they decided to make that a Pro feature only:\ )
Im sort of in the same boat (Graphic Designer with aspirations to be a UI/UX designer) and am learning to code of my own accord. I've had much success with Processing. It's really easy to get started and get functional code running. Also, you can run your processing files on a webpage with Java or Processing.js. I don't know about the large data sets you're dealing with, but since Processing is java based, I assume there won't be much difficulty
Considering the tech they're supplying. If you bought similar tech for a hobby robot or something, I'd bet the price would be even higher. (I don't know if that's the case as I haven't done hobby robotics since the RCX Lego Programmable Brick. Ah, memories)
Did anyone else picture this guy throwing a tantrum and raging like a toddler when they read the summary? I think that's a fair description of what's going on here.
This isn't just about media. The bill is also meant to target counterfeit manufactured goods, like fake Prada handbags shipped directly from China. Allowing companies to quickly block the Chinese web sites would curtail counterfeiting, but as many have said, the bill is too broad and too easy to abuse.
It used to be that you had to go to China, or some secret dinky store in Chinatown, to buy fake Chinese-made goods. Thanks to e-commerce, you can do that from the comfort of your own home. Perhaps SOPA needs to apply to credit card companies instead of web sites. Imagine if Prada could just tell Visa to block payments to fake-prada-handbags.cn without going through law enforcement. I bet Visa would hate that, because then Visa would be have to deal with abuses, instead of dozens of small ISPs.
I hadn't thought of that. Are you running for office anytime soon?
We need innovation from the media companies; they need to embrace the digital platform and build distribution systems around it. Piracy will drop drastically if they make the media easy and cheap to buy.
They spent god knows how much money and time to send this team of researchers around the world to exotic locations to talk on a cellphone with a solar panel duck taped to the back of it? Where the hell was THAT career option on career day?
Crap. 5:30 am posting bites me in the ass. What I meant to say was "Big Jimbo Speaks and it isn't about feeding his wallet: IT'S SOMETHING REASONABLE".
Yes I know it's an epic fail. Yes I know I should go to bed in disgrace.
I suppose it is because I have never been truly swayed by any religion that I can look at it that way. I've always been one to (for the most part) look at both sides of the argument and think critically of those sides. Again, call me an optimist...
I guess you could call me an optimist or idealist, but I always thought that when you went to college or any university of repute where you CHOOSE to study something like the science of evolution, or you CHOOSE to go to a lecture about evolution, why would you bring your religious baggage with you? I thought the idea of attending a lecture or university was to expand your mind, not defend your beliefs.
Again, maybe it's because I'm an optimist, but shouldn't these "scholars" behave a little more... I don't know... scholarly?
"There's as much porn there as anyone would need, I imagine."
Challenge accepted, sir.
Totally read this hoping we'd finally discovered Element Zero. *sigh* Another time, perhaps.
All five people who own a Surface will surely make great use of this.

Oh if only I had mod points. +1 insightful to parent

Agreed. I can't make heads or tails whether having my DNA promoter regions methylated or demethylated is good for me or not.
This was way before my slashdot days and ventures into linux (back when I was barely a winXP power user)

MakeMKV?! O.o Where the hell was this 6 years ago when I was converting my anime library? I mean, I like VideoDubMod and all, but MAN was it a pain.

God knows he's not gonna spend it on his website. I thought sites like that died with Netscape!
Never thought I'd see a headline like that.
Any second now I'm gonna start seeing frogs raining from the sky... *rushes to the window to watch*

You sir are giving a bad name to toddlers. Please refrain from besmirching their reputation.
HAH! Oh if only I had the mod points. +1 Funny

This won't work. They'll just spin the decreased sales as a spike in piracy, thus strengthening their case.

Big Jimbo speaks and it isn't about something that isn't feeding his wallet AND IT'S SOMETHING REASONABLE!
I'll support this. This will provide so much more (negative) publicity to SOPA than anything any other group has done to date. GO JIMBO!

Preface: I am not religious.

Another resolution I have to design for when doing app designs... *re-edits his templates*
