    This is absolutely what it means. Especially with something the size of a game .iso, the ability to put in a destructive payload is easy.

    Same way you miss the Nasca sand art. They seem like odd ditches until you get some perspective. That villa seems like it's just irregular enough to look like it's just another feature of the land. Too insignificant to do major earthmoving, so the farmer who works that piece of land just works around it.

    Cost is definitely an issue, however, thie problem of them wearing out can be mitigated with more intelligent filesystem designs that distribute writing to the disk so that cells are used evenly. I know there is some FS work going on in the Linux camp about these sort of modifications. Alternatively, one could have a small microdrive for their data files, and have program binaries, etc, which don't usually change on the flash drive to take advantage of both technologies.

    Your sig is appropriate to what the most ideal purpose for thse drives is. Mobile computing. Motors are one of the biggest consumers of electricity in modern mobiles. Replacing the hard drive with a solid state drive would increase battery life noticably, plus increase the ruggedness of a laptop. This would be a godsend for fleet purposes.

    Uh, you know that hurricanes are cyclical, and that the previous 30-40 years were a lull in hurricane activity, right? So while global warming may contribute a bit, hurricanes will still be extant and still be devestating even without global warming. Quit being so simple-minded.

    Could be. Never used that setting, could be that they have enabled it by default now. I like them a hell of a lot better than IE's error pages; they're clean, informative and actually useful.

    Just downloaded it, seems cleaner, the new error pages seem a bit better than the old popup systems; informative and not nearly as cluttered as IE's. Haven't tested page rendering that much, so that remains to be seen, but seems good so far.

    The difference is that the old 486 in the corner is still fully functional, and if it ever did die, there are still emulators, etc. Who's to say what will happen with valve and their masters Vivendi?

    Also worthwhile (and sadly funny) is the movie _Super Size Me_.
    Or look at the professor who /lost/ weight on an all mcdonalds diet. It's not the fast food industry that's the problem, it's the problem with people not spending the time to do the 5 minutes of research to plan a week/month of eating choices that allows you to eat foods from places like mcdonalds without gaining wait. Mr. Spurlock is an asshat, plain and simple.

    The laptop market right now is all about making things as small as possible. A RAID setup would require a system that is much larger than current offerings to work. IMO, this is more about the server market. Small, low power consumption servers, maybe even fitting two mobos in a single 1u chassis. Such a market obviously exists, but up until very recently, there hasn't been a chipset that could realistically do the job of a server. This is what this product is really about, not the laptop market.

    I think that's the point of SSOne being two different reusable craft. You have the white knight which gets the thing up and running, than SSOne which is launched from there. Really, what Rutan is doing is not much different from what we've always done, it's just that he's designed the whole thing around using reusable vehicles.

    HT was only good if your code was designed to use it. This means things like optimizing your compiler to only use half the cache, etc. Hyperthreading involves a lot of cheating that the OS, compiler, and developer have to take into consideration when designing the proc, and for most people, it just isn't worth it.
