Invest in a hardened VPN box, block all ports on your webserver from outside world except 80 and 443. Only allow SSH access from the VPN. Log into your environment only after you first have a VPN connection. Outside world would only see the ports they are allowed access -- you would have more control over who has secure access.
If you are self-employed or a habitual IT contractor you can incorporate then get your own health insurance through a trade association. Had MAMSI via the National Association of the Self-Employed for 6 years. Great rates, easy to deal with. With hundreds of thousands of members it was better than what some companies were offering. But don't wait around till a nationalized policy is available in the US.
While it's beyond doubt that Chuck Norris would win in a fight between him and Linux-Based routers. He would have a tougher time if more systems administrators would use KeePass. That should be an interview question and vendors should know better than having default passwords. Otherwise, Chuck Norris will kick your ass.
Yeah, that's unrealistic, what do you think happens when they cram a bunch of people on a box with unlimited bandwidth? Plus, if you're paying $15 for a domain name then you are getting screwed. My worst buy-rates at http://hpddomains.com/ is under $10 -- most of the time you can get domains plus a basic hosting account for $8. Domains are $1.99 with hosting, but I'm usually buying them in bulk.
You are right about the Linux part, you get better flexibility. However, ease of migration shouldn't matter so much if you are keeping a backup of your data off-line -- no matter how good the hosting, there are always things that people do to mess up a site. Better to have your own copy and a way to restore it. Been with my provider for 4 years now with about 212 domains and 4 hosting accounts.
Public release of race composition of Google, Apple, or other company employees would show market interests. It would also show where outsourcing activity is happening (while the government has data on work location with employment tax, they don't have a picture of contract workers.) Overall this is useful data for the government who is interested in local economic development, very useful for a competitor who is wondering how they keep labor rates so low. Gender is not that useful in terms of competition.
Well the sooner AI surpasses human intelligence the more safe people will feel with hovering armed robots commanding their town. Who needs people anyway. One day computers can comment on news stories sharing their own opinions if they aren't already.
I like the term "data whore", and people just keep giving them more of it. Maybe they are addicted. Right now the only privacy people have is in their heads.
Don't know why they need a simulated attack, ever script kiddy is banging on their equipment anyway. Maybe they will have a serious plan for handling it rather than what I've seen with speculation and lax best practices. At least they are trying.
