damn, finally someone else with some sense. If i wanted to drink liquid dirt I would go to New Jersey, or possibly Lake Erie. When i want good beer I will drinking something that tastes good, not the 30-proof motor oil that is Guiness.
If I had mod points now I would mod you down because you are stupid and didn't read the article.
#1: Wow, timestamps can't be altered...
#2: I'm sure there were thousands of people who simply viewed the hacked page. What our friend here did, was do several additional probes into which ports were open on the hacked server, what kind of software it was running, and how it might have been hacked. Then he discussed the event on IRC, and may have been monitored by the FBI.
If your second point made more sense, I might have been able to respond to it a little better.. sounds like you need to lower your caffine/cocaine intake.
good lord, you actually think running excel or word 2k through WINE will be faster than running something written specifically for linux?
plus, why don't you just say "word2000 isn't compatible with SO" instead of the other way around?
if you're talking about an workplace environment, then you might have a reason to use O2K. (compatibility issues). However, I'd hope you'd at least get a workstation with more than 64 mb of RAM... if not, please find a new place to work.
I could say the same thing about cigarette companies using the cute joe camel cartoon character to sell cigarettes... and no one would argue with me on that point.

What you don't yet realize, is that a lot of users on Napsters actually *use* the channels provided to discuss good new music. I, for one, usually don't search for music unless I *really* have a song in mind that I'm looking for.
Most of the time (I have this luxury since I'm on DSL) I just browse the Libraries of people with the most songs that are in the same channels as me, and grab whatever looks interesting. I've found some good stuff this way.
There is one good way to see who's listening to your music on napster... if you're the artist releasing some songs, just do a search for em... if you're the only one with those songs, then I guess they're not getting around =)
If you find 2 or 3 people with your songs, then you're in better shape. Obviously not everyone who's downloaded a song is going to be online, or on the same server as you, so its not perfect tracking, but its better than nothing.
Actually, the number of artists who have "broken through" using napster is probably pretty similar(relatively) to the number of one-hit artists on the radio... napster break-outs are just more "edgy" or have nastier lyrics;-)
And my guess that the FIRST sites their filtering software blocks is www.anonymizer.com (or.net,.org, as well as any site with anonymizer in its name.)

there's no way to magically insert 'space' between 2 parts unless you can somehow levitate one of the parts. it might be possible by laying down a layer of acid-soluble material between the two separate pieces though, and then dissolving this later later.
but hey, we're talkin about plans that can be sent over the internet... once one person comes up with schematics for a device, it could be spread everywhere in mere days... i can't wait to see the copyright suits that are filed once something like this comes out though! oh lordy!
Wow, too bad that you'll have to print all 1,500 pages out if you want to keep a permanent copy to read anywhere. Plus you'll have to put up with the eyestrain of reading for days on end on a computer monitor. Maybe there's some people out there with $3000 24" flat-screen monitors that can put up with that, but I cant' put up with staring at a CRT for more than an hour or two without getting a headache.
Still, I think what King is doing is very ground-breaking, but like internet sites that want to charge you $15 for downloading a whole CD worth of mp3s (wow, sub-standard audio quality and no physical media! what a deal!) and is really only worth it for the envelope-pushers and wealthy.
yeah and you can probably catch a movie at a small 2-theatre cinema in a midwest town for $4 still... quality and size aren't on par with those huge multiplexes, but you still get a great movie experience for a cheap price.

holy shit, a post with a source?! get off slashdot you non-conformist =P
If any comment gets modded up in this so-far stupid discussion, it should be this one.

Doubtful. Most of the language addons for Office that I've worked with are installed through Windows itself (hooray for Microsoft Update...)

Why run Office 2k when you have a perfectly good application in Star Office? Use an Open-source program for an open-source operating system...

You need to stop smoking some crack.
Wow, burn one cd in only a few hours? What a deal!
Winamp will convert mp3 files to wavs. Last time I checked, it wouldn't convert cd tracks to wavs.

less dense = larger. same mass, larger volume = less density. time to ease up off those drugs.
